The Germanium version of the Fethead will provide 29 dB of gain while the normal version will provide 27 dB of gain. However, the normal Fethead does not color your sound while the Germanium version adds a bit of color. I opted for the Germanium version and am quite happy with it. The coloration of the sound is not really all that noticeable to me. You probably will be happy with either. It kills the signal completely and yes I am using it with phantom power - and it does nothing! Complete waste of time. This should've been tested when it was made and thrown in the waste bin at the manufacturing facility!!!
