They allow me to have the ice treatment on and continue to do other things. Previously I had to sit in a chair and stare at the wall as I held an ice pack on for 20-30 minutes - not fun or productive. As I type this review, I have one on each elbow and this allows me to work an ice at the same time. I know - I am supposed to use the elbow less to let it rest. How many of us has the time to do that? ;-)I like the soft gel, which does not freeze and remains soft so it is not a hard surface against your injured area and you don't have to deal with the mess of ice bags sweating or leaking. Comes with sleeves so you can protect your skin from freezing - any shirt/sock/etc. would do but may be more bulky and then you need to be careful of the size you order. I have 10" - 12" forearms/elbows and the Medium fit nicely with the provided sleeves. They were a bit tight when I put them over a fleece (when the weather was a bit colder) so I purchased the large but they may be too big - will keep them around for knees if necessary.I like these so much I am ordering another set to keep at work so I don't forget them and have a set at home. The right price as well. They are alot colder than a normal one and soft which makes it easy to get it wrapped around injury much better. I took my mother to physical therapy and was waiting on her. The therapist noticed my arm was really hurting me (after surgery 8 days earlier & having 2 rods put thru my wrist) and she went and got her roll on ice pack and put it around my cast. I'm serious, the pain stopped within 5 minutes and the cold lasted for a full hour. After taking it off, the pain stayed away for about 45 minutes. I wrote down the name and found them on amazon and ordered 4 - the small, med, and large and the large flat pad. Best thing I've ever stumbled on!
