Must be the wax in the product or something to make the fragrance different. Sometimes I'll put some oil on after but it does make it almost too greasy feeling because the oil doesn't really absorb after the balm as well. I really like the smell though. Hold is not the best for a balm but I love the bay rum smell. It does make your beard shiny and the hold lasts for a few hours.
