Review: Great little device -- just pull out and eyepiece - Great little device -- just pull out your eyepiece, slip this in, plug it into your USB port and voila! The stripped-down version of ToupView worked almost effortlessly. The photos are pretty much just as sharp as I can see through the eyepiece, meaning presumably that it is limited by the optics of the microscope, not defects in its own optics or sloppiness in the interface with the scope. I've attached photos of two lichenicolous fungi: first two = Lichenostigma maureri and last = Sphaerellothecium abditum. The last photo is minimally stacked from three photos in order to maximize the detailed texture visible in the cell wall. Note scale bars to give an idea how clear these came out. I calculated that at full-resolution at 1000x (oil immersion) I get 37 pixels per micron, or 27 nm per pixel -- that's less than a tenth of the wavelength of visible light (390-700 nm). Yep, that's overkill. :) Linux users: In all fairness, it must be pointed out that the software is very minimal: you can adjust resolution, color balance, exposure, histograms, frame rate, and maybe one or two other things, but that's it: you snap photos or movies, and save them, nothing else. Also, the device is not recognized presently by the latest ubuntu release (kernel 3.19.0-18-generic), so you cannot use cheese or guvcview with it. This will probably change soon, I'm guessing it's just a matter of adding some device ids to an existing driver, but even that much is beyond me! Fortunately, ToupView doesn't care if the device isn't recognized; it worked fine for me anyway.
Review: A Great Microscope Camera - This camera really has improved my ability to use my OMAX M82ES microscope. I have so many floaters that high magnification basically shows the reflection of what's in my eyes and so is very hard for me to get the most out of the microscope. Not so with this camera! The software, TroupView, needed to use it however works very well on Windows 7, but is not available for the Mac OS. Instead they give you TroupLite which is sufficient for my needs at present except for one thing, namely the video resolution (or some other function) produces movies that look pixilated at the same basic resolution that I use on Windows. The display and pictures it produces is the same. It is only movies that suffer. Since it appears that neither Mac OS or Windows can use this device as a webcam (too many pixels?) you really have to use the Troup software so I'm a bit frustrated. Does anyone know of any other software that can be used? I'll happily give this camera another star if this problem gets resolved because the hardware is indeed excellent and it works so well on Windows.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptionally useful tool!
*by J***N on October 28, 2015*

I use it with a Nikon SMZ745T (Trinocular) microscope attached to a Mac Pro system. Simply stated, it works flawlessly. I get finely detailed, sharp images up to about 40 diameters which are about 35 Mb in size. There are no instructions of any kind that I could find however for anyone familiar with digital image management software, e.g., Photoshop, etc., image management is easy. It took a few tries to get some other features working save, delete, new image and so on. but it ws certainly not a real problem of any consequence. I love it and use it frequently in my research. I have attached a "test" of a 6mm tall lotus from a Nepalese coin. The frame as taken has the potential of being an 8" by 10" photographic print.
