## Overview

Lost Cities Card Game by Reiner Knizia is a highly rated two-player strategy card game featuring a dual-sided board with classic and new 6th expedition modes. Players embark on five or six unique expeditions, balancing risk and reward through simple yet deep gameplay mechanics. With 72 cards, quick rounds, and a compact design, it’s perfect for millennials seeking engaging, portable, and intellectually stimulating leisure.

## Description

Two explorers embark on research journeys to remote corners of the world: The Himalayan mountains, The central American rainforest, the Egyptian desert, a mysterious VOLCANO, and the bottom of the sea. As the cards are played, the expedition routes take shape and the explorers earn points. The most daring adventurers make bets on the success of their expeditions. The Explorer with the highest score after three rounds of expeditions wins. The rules of the game are simple, but beware: the lost cities hold many unseen mysteries! This new edition features a sixth set of expedition cards and a two-sided game board: on one side is the classic five-expedition game. On the other side, a new variant with six expeditions is offered.

Review: Excellent two player game that combines simplicity, strategy, and luck - This two player card game is excellent: - it's inexpensive - the games are short - the rules are simple to learn - while the game has some luck involved, player agency and strategy is also really important - it's fun to replay as you learn the game and experience different hands - it's highly mobile as all you really need to play is the deck of cards - the rules of the game capture the risk taking of undergoing an expedition that may yield any rewards My only complaints are nitpicks: - The face value of the cards are really important. I wish the scores were printed on the top and bottom like playing cards. After shuffling the cards, you have to organize the cards in your hand so they're all facing up. - I wish the cards were higher quality. I noticed some fraying on one of the cards after just two plays. - I wish a smaller box just for the cards was included to make this game more mobile. As I stated above, the game board is nice but not strictly required.
Review: Super fun, simple to grasp but gets more strategic as you play more, could not stop playing! - So, I was looking for a board game I could play with my girlfriend since we have been getting into those a lot more. When I looked at this game, it looked interesting, and I decided to give it a shot. First of all, the art for the cards is beautiful, especially the ones for the lost expedition that comes with this game. The gameplay is pretty simple: you go on "Expeditions" to one of 5 (or 6) locations. You shuffle the deck, and each card represents a step or finding in an expedition, with a value of 2 to 10. Interestingly, you cannot add cards of a lower value than the one that has already been placed, so for example, if you started with a 5, you cannot put in a four or anything below. Also in the mix are multiplier cards. Now, this all seems reasonable, but an important thing to remember is that an expedition costs 20 points, so you have to be sure that you will score at least this amount or get negative points. This is where the game gets fun; in a turn, you can either place a card, discard a card, then draw a card, or take the top one from any of the discard piles. You have to decide if you want to go in on an expedition, deny your partner from completing theirs, or hope that you will get more cards from the deck and be able to complete your expeditions. It becomes a more engaging game that makes you think about what the other player can or will do. We had so much fun that we kept playing the whole day, and once we started doing the 6th edition, which added 13 more cards, it added more strategy to it. Each game felt fresh since you never get the same cards if you shuffle correctly. It's super easy to set up and fun to play. I recommend this game if you want something to play with someone else!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good 2-player card game with fast setup
*by T***B on March 15, 2023*

It's a folding two-sided board, cards, and a decent set of instructions. That is all. Very quick to set up beyond the need to shuffle cards (when done with a match most people have all the cards in matching suits together, so you need heavy duty shuffling to truly randomize the deck) and then you are off again. Took my wife and I 15 minutes to get everything down to memory and it's not too complicated at all. Matches move fast, almost too fast without the "long version" that includes the purple suit and expedition. We really like this, it's perfect to pull out and have ready in no time and great if you want to take a fast break from another game like Onitama or Star Realms. Forgot to mention the artwork is fantastic, love every bit of it. Even the cards in the same suit have different art each. The cards feel a bit better quality of board stock than your standard cheapo cards at the dollar store, something around "casino quality" maybe. The playing board itself is thick cardboard with good artwork that tri-folds for storage. At the fold points it wants to stand up off the table a little, this will probably wear in over time or if we lay a book on it. At first I was worried when I read about the scoring system but it's not bad. If you don't have your phone with a calculator function then I suggest you get one of those $1 basic calculators at a nearby store to keep in the box with the game, as well as a notepad and pen. These will help you tally up the score at the end of each match. Will not ding the game for not including these because these are basic items that would've driven the price up and many people may already have them. This is just a minor suggestion and not needed. Overall I am surprised how much we all like this game and I am very happy with this purchase.
