The nylon cord sewn into the waistband to adjust the fit is not finished well. They tie a knot in the ends to keep fraying to a minimum. When you wash them, the know will come undone and the cord will fray. This is true for all the pants in their line with this nylon cording. The SOLUTION is to take your hand-held torch or a long match and use the flame to melt the ends of the pull. This stops fraying once and for all. It's easy to do, doesn't catch fire, release hazardous fumes, and does stop fraying when washing.
