Review: Fantastic - Easy to fit, works a treat, brilliant value - Spent ages looking for a smart garage controller (due to repeatedly leaving the door open!) Mostly focused on smart controllers that were getting close to £200, but couldn't find one that ticked all the boxes (alerts, remote control, Alexa integration, check status via an app) Then noticed mention of the Meross controller on a forum, so checked it out. To be honest, I was sceptical on how good it would be for 30 quid, when I was willing to spend 6 times that. Looked at the excellent reviews, and thought 'what's to lose?' Well, I have to say I was not disappointed at all. This is probably the best value gadget I have ever bought!! It seems really good quality, does everything I need, does it well, and was a piece of cake to setup. You need to have a compatible garage door controller, but Meross tell you how to test if yours is not listed (it will work with a much wider range than they list). If you have the option for a pulse switch (basically a push-button to open/close the garage), it should work (and you can keep your existing button.. I have an unusual controller (Teckentrup Carteck Drive 600 Pro). It has a separate wall-mounted control unit, which in my case was the far side of the garage from where I wanted the Meross, so wiring the controller switch cable was my biggest job. If you have a 'normal' opener where the drive unit and controller is in one unit on the ceiling, you'd probably attach the Meross to that). Installation is pretty simple... Firstly, check that you have a good Wi-Fi signal wherever you are going to place the Meross controller. Then wire the switch feed to the push button connection (you will need to get some cable if you're not mounting the Meross on, or next to the garage door closer. Wire the supplied sensor to the door (the magnetic sensor needs to be within about an inch of the magnet) and connect the USB power lead on the Meross to a socket. Then install the app, and it's pretty self-explanatory. Alexa setup was easy and works well (Alexa, is the garage locked/unlocked, lock the garage door, unlock the garage door - you can set a PIN for the latter). Alerts on the app work well to alert you when garage is opened or closed. You can also set alerts to tell you if the garage door is open for more than x minutes, or after a certain time in the day - or even to close it if still open after x o'clock. Just be aware that if you check the status via the app, you may need to drag the screen down to refresh the status. Twice, the app said "failed to unlock the garage", and the garage door stopped, but may have been because of how long the app was set to 'press the switch' for. I changed that and it hadn't happened since. I set the app up on my wife's phone too - you can set the app up on multiple devices, using the same username and password. It would be good, as a future enhancement, to be able to have 'guest' users with their own logins, so that you can see who has controlled the door. It's slightly odd that in the UK you need to use the words lock/unlock with Alexa ('Alexa, lock the garage' as opposed to 'Alexa, close the garage'). Hardly a big deal! Frankly, it just works. All for 30 quid!! Really impressed, and really good value. Very glad I didn't spend nearly 200 quid on one that wouldn't even work with Alexa in the UK!!

**Q: does it include the door sensor that tells the Meross app whether the door is open or closed?**
A: Hi, I’ve two of these and have proved very good and reliable. The kit is supplied with a single magnetic switch that either shows the garage door closed or open. Mine is set up to show that the doors are closed if it is open the app shows a graphic of an open door plus after a set time the app will also send you a notification saying the door is open, mine is set to 30 minutes. Hope the info helps.

**Q: Is there any way of putting a pin on the ios app as kids use my phone to play games worried if they might go on the app and open it ?**
A: Yes you can set a pin code for either just opening or opening and closing the door.  The code is specific to the garage door, not the app itself.

**Q: Does this need wi fi?**
A: You will need wi if at home to set this up - yes but it operates on any smart phone I believe - my iPhone is supported via an app that you will need to download. I am not sure yet if this device can be used by multiple users. I am testing it out as I install garage door automation and came across this via a customer. The price is for nothing compared to alternative manufacturer systems and I have had it running for three weeks without any glitch so far. It notifies you via the app as to when your door is opened or closed - it sends a notification each time it’s operated Providing you have notification switched on of course and does this irrespective of whether the door is operated via the app on your phone or via a transmitter or other device such as wall station / bell push which is quite good. This device and smart phone feature could be a rival for buying transmitters as it is a cheaper option. I don’t get how they can do it for the money or why they would want to but we won’t argue. Only concern- it does need some level of diy or trade skill to install it. It’s not just as simple as it might first appear but for the price who cares? Have a go. Nothing to loose but if you have no idea of running and fixing cabling or are a non diy person altogether then you will need to take care and follow the instructions. It took me about 2 hours to fully install in a proper and neat way. Next time I should be able to half that time. For any novice allow half a day and follow the good instructions that accompany the product and as I say so far so good. Hope this helps.

**Q: Will this work with roller shutter garage door**
A: This device provides a pulse of on/off like a switch contacts open/close - this works for up and over garage door openers which can work with a simple door bell push type switch - but I'm think roller shutters can have a rocker type switch, with one set of contacts for up and another for down and if this is the case this device would only work to send the roller up or down but not both - if the shutter controller has a single set of contacts that 'cycle' between up and down then this device should work - it's very simple to install and connect to a WiFi signal - hope that helps.
