I bought it to be able to move it around easily in the event of 'lights out' in Florida - storms, hurricane, etc. However, once the three D batteries are in place, the bottom is very 'bottom-heavy' and if you pick up the lamp by the goose neck, the bottom (flimsy plastic cover) will open up and the batteries will fall out. Know from experience. I had to cut out a circular piece of cardboard and tape it to the bottom - taped very securely - to prevent this from happening. Also, I had ordered two...the plastic around the base of the gooseneck broke when taking it out of the box and the lamp is useless.
