Not impressed with the songs, they're pretty silly. Using this book with a YouTube follow along. So far my daughter is enjoying it. Really good for a beginner, detailed instructions

This curriculum is perfect for my first and second graders and I was excited to get the book/ CD combination, only to discover that the CD track titles do not match the book song titles – for instance, page 13 (Gypsy Dance) is track 12 (Three Giraffes). The track titles must belong to the old edition. Also, the first track, "Be Happy", must be to tune to, but the B note an octave lower than what you will play on the first song "Little Fly" ... maybe track 1 is being played on an alto recorder? My main disappointment is that the track titles do not match the song titles ...and though the accompaniments are very good, and each includes an Intro, there is no count-off for the initial practice play through for each song. Wish they had taken a little more care when publishing the new addition. Publisher needs to update the track titles to match the song titles. I play the CD in Windows media Player and have been able to edit the track titles to match the book.

As a homeschooling mom with no prior knowledge, I am happy to be able to easily use this book.

If you are beginning to learn to play the recorder, this book is for you. It teaches the basics and is easy to understand and follow.

The Kids and I really like this book!

VERY basic. Good for young children under the age of about eight. I bought this book because I also have the alto book by the same author which is much much much better for an adult to learn.

Bought this for my 87YO mother, so she could see if she would want to proceed with similar training for the children at church. She loves the variety songs in the book. And getting + mark from MY mother is pretty difficult! <wink>

My granddaughter has started to learn the clarinet and to encourage her I decided to go back to playing the recorder after a fifty year break! I was also inspired to start again by watching a performance by the English Baroque Soloists of the Bach Easter Oratorio at the BBC proms last year (2013) where there is a beautiful part for two recorders) I have all three of the "Recorder from the Beginning" books for descant recorder. They were written for children which is great because when it comes to music I'm a 65 year old child. Make sure you get the versions with the cd. The cd is most helpful especially if like me you have trouble figuring out the rhythm and beat. On the cd each tune is played first by a solo recorder and then twice with a backing track - really instructive, entertaining and encouraging. And now I can read a bit of music, which is very satisfying. I highly recommend these books. After a couple of months of regular practice I've improved from gruesome to awful, but that is not the fault of these excellent books. At least the dog has stopped howling so I must be doing something right.

This is a very basic book for learners with instructions that are easy to understand. There are some fun tunes that I enjoy practicing regularly as there is quite a bit of variety included after every new note taught. This book in conjunction with the more detailed 'First Book of the Recorder' by Philip Hawthorne makes my practice sessions far more interesting and fun. Definitely recommend using additional beginner books along with this one. The cover page arrived with a split corner so this is probably not a brand new book. Fixable with a little glue. Other than that, it's still a good book to have on hand and am quite glad I got it.

As a professional advanced tenor and bass recorder player I found this book helpful for people who are first starting out beginners but the songs are too extremely easy you just have to study and learn the notes I found this helping at first but since I play the tenor and bass recorder and I am an professional advanced player who has played several instruments like piano,drums,violin,tenor and bass recorder,flute,Congo drum,guitar I need more advance professional books
