A: Yes, but you will still need a cleaning link tool to keep rifle in the open position. The gun vise clamp does not have enough gripping power to hold rifle open in the hinged open position due to the thick foam cushion.

A: Depending on the firearm you're going to be using this with, it could prove to be the best option.  It is heavy and works well for holding long guns.
