The Greatest Hits was the first collection of American singer-songwriter John Denver, published at the end of 1973 for the Christmas shopping season. In some countries, a version known as “The Best of John Denver” has been published with the same tracklist. The best included both materials from his early period as a composer of songs and his subsequent “Rocky Mountain High”. In fact, many of these tracks were not hit in itself, but as Stephen Thomas Erlewine had written for Allmusic, “it was [the] songs that defined it.” In addition, the Greatest Hits is historically important for remastered recordings of several songs from the past.
