Smart About the Presidents (Smart About History) Review: Wonderful book for kids - I ordered this for my 1st grade daughter. Since her school doesn't focus on History or science until 3rd grade we've been working on some of this at home. She loved all the trivia information and even took it with her on a recent car trip. This book keeps her busy for quite a long while. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to supplement their childs current education or homeschoolers. It's written in a fun and easy to read format. The illustrations made my daughter giggle quite a bit and held her attention. Great book! Review: Smart about the Presidents book - I highly recommend this book! Fun facts and friendly illustrations get kids interested in the presidents. It's almost like they're learning and they don't even know it. Some reviews were referring to an older version, we recieved the newest version with President Obama. It also has a section about the president's duties, the first lady, and the white house. This book is educational and fun, with endless possibilities. Great for a President's Day unit also.

It was delivered by USPS on a SUNDAY!
Received the product in two days, and on a Sunday to boot. Thank you Amazon. About the book, my 8 year old is enjoying right now. It is easy for him to understand the little facts associated with each president. At 8 years old he would not understand important facts like Watergate, Iraqi war, etc. He is however remembering the presidents by facts such as 'which president loved peanuts.' Good choice for elementary students, highly recommend the purchase.

Doesnt emphasize the most important details enough
I realize it is intended for a young audience, but when you are giving such a little bit of information about each president, I would have highlighted the most important things. Take for example the entry on John Quincy Adam's which includes the fact that he didn't win the popular vote (important), with mostly other very trivial facts, like his swimming naked in the Potomac and the rather subjective statement that "like his father before him, John Quincy Adams got on many people's nerves." Nothing about what he accomplished for the good of the country is included. I prefer Ken Burns's book Grover Cleveland Again, which is more difficult, but contains more substantial information. Also, I don't like cartoon drawings only. A real picture of each president would help kids remember faces better.

Everyone is learning!
Excellent to introduce presidents! My 6 and 8 year old love for me to read a few pages each week. We use this in our homeschool to introduce capital hill before a trip to DC later this year. The facts are interesting and the drawings fun!

Even I'm learning new stuff
I absolutely love this book about the presidents. It has the right information that keeps my childs interest and even has me learning new stuff. There is a fun fact (or two) about every president. And the illustrations make it fun for the kids too. My kids pick this book as a bedtime book.

Love this series!
This series is the best. Purchased the First Ladies for my 4 year old daughter and it quickly became her favorite book which is what led me to buy this one, "The First Gentlemen." :) Very educational with cute cartoon drawings. My 4 year old likes to be the teacher and read the book aloud to me - and she is able to recall many of the facts from the book. Great learning tool!

Full of Wonderful Facts!
I ordered this book for the nonfiction section of my classroom library, and it has been a hit. My students enjoy reading information about our past presidents, as well as a few facts about our current president as well. The illustrations are entertaining, and the content is written in a way that average third graders can be successful with reading it independently.
