Makeblock mBot Ranger Robot Programmable Learning Robotic Toys for Kids

This is a good toy but it is very expensive for what it does. We have had trouble getting it to connect to Bluetooth from the laptop and the mobile app seems to be outdated and wont work any more. It was fun to build but hasn't been picked up again since the first play so a bit of a waste of money

The robot looks fantastic but bluetooth connectivity does not work. Set of six AA batteries lasted 3 minutes. Having to investigate Bluetooth dongles and compatible rechargeable battery packs and charger just to get off the start line. An additional expense and inconvenience. Haven’t had opportunity to get into the programming / project stage.

I purchased Makeblock mBot Ranger for my 10 year old son's birthday and initially we were impressed with the build quality and the party tricks it did. Problems occurred a few weeks later when a software update was required for my son to be able progress. This was done, but when tried to use it, it would not operate as was programmed, the mbot was again connected to the computer and the message 'update software' appeared again. Despite numerous attempts at trying to overcome this the problem persisted. I sent a message to the online support, where it a took over a week to for them to respond. When they did we followed the instructions which did not resolve the problem. Since then I have sent two other messages to the online support, the last one over a month ago and so far have not received a reply. I purchased mbot as I wanted something more than just a toy for educational purposes and took on board the glowing reviews had read. Unfortunately it is turned out to be an expensive mistake.

We bought this for our son's bday, he's incredibly disappointed. After building, wiring and setting up the app the motors appeared too weak to turn the tracks (although it would move slowly with the tracks off, nothing like the promotional video ... Big surprise there!). Assumed this was due to the batteries (new Duracell) so bought rechargeable ones as per the instructions, to find no difference at all. Now Bluetooth can't connect so it's going back. The build quality does look impressive, so disappointing that it just doesn't work.

The product looks really good quality, but connection and programming is a nightmare. It won't even do one of its own in built functions, and there is no help anywhere. Thinking of returning if no joy with my next project.

My 7-year old received this as a XMAS present. It is sturdy and built out of metal components, which is a very good thing and it makes it look impressive. But that's about it! After a series of exchanges with the (very slow) makeblock support and countless hours spent, we did not manage to make the software work and connect the robot to any application, although we are both working in IT. The reply from the support was that it is a hardware problem. By looking around for solutions, we also discovered we are not the only ones.... At this price, such complete failures should not happen and, if they happen, the support should be much faster than what we got or there should be an alternative solution available somehow. As it is now, this robot goes back, unfortunately :(

My 14yr old loves it, well built and good fun

Subjektive Kurzrezension eines Wirtschaftsinformatikers einer 8-jährigen Tochter (3. Klasse Grundschule): Meine Tochter hat ein Smartphone seit dem 3. Lebensjahr. Sie hat Erfahrung im Programmieren mit SCRATCH jr. auf dem Tablet seit dem 4 Lebensjahr. Mit SCRATCH hat sie Erfahrung im Programmieren seit dem 6. Lebensjahr. Die Frage, die sich mir stellte, war: Wie kann man mit Gamification mehr Spaß und Lernerfolg in das Programmieren bringen, ohne, dass ich immer dabei sein muss. LEGO Boost in den Variationen maximal rabattiertes "Blaues Elend" und irrsinnig überteuertes "Star Wars" hilft da kaum weiter. Ich habe den Spaß an dem SCRATCH jr. Derivat gleich verloren. Entweder ich begreife etwas gleich, oder es ist einfach schlecht. Da meine Tochter es mir auch nicht gleich erklären konnte, war es einfach richtig schlecht. Was definitiv gut ist, das ist der Ansatz. Bei der Umsetzung wende ich mich gerne an die Profis. Das so genannten Lehrspielzeug Makeblock mBot Ranger ist ein ambitionierter Einstig. Optisch eine Augenweide - gerade auch für Kinder - und von Kindern auch alleine zusammenbaubar, ist es ein Prachtstück, das alle Augen auf sich zieht. Die App (hier getestet Android) ist gleichsam für Kinder intuitiv bedienbar und Gamification wird konsequent umgesetzt. Dass ein Kind dann doch mal hier oder da vielleicht ein wenig Unterstützung benötigt, das finde ich absolut in Ordnung. Insgesamt ist die App kindgerecht, die Einführung in die Programmierung mit dem Scratch-Derivat von Mblock ist damit gegeben. Die IDE (PC oder Online) ist dann nicht mehr so intuitiv bedienbar und bedarf zumindest ein paar einleitender Worte. Dennoch, einfach umschalten auf die Sprache C und man kann bereits mit kleinsten Programmen die gewünschten Lerneffekte setzen. Im Übrigen hat man mit dem Ranger die Möglichkeit, das gesamte Arduino-Reich sich noch zu erschließen bzw. miteinzubauen. Das ELEGOO UNO R3 Ultimate Starter Kit ist ein guter Einstieg und sorgt beim parallelen Einsatz für die notwendige Abwechslung. Die ich persönlich noch mit einem Elektronik-Lötset abgerundet habe, denn Löten kommt bei Arduino und Co m.W. ja nicht vor. Makebot hat ohne Zweifel seinen Preis. Dafür hat man es aber mit Material zu tun, das man eher in den professionellen Bereich verortet. Es ist leicht für Kinder begreifbar, wo genau so ein Ranger seinen Einsatz haben könnte. In Höhen und Tiefen, wo ein Mensch kaum überleben kann. Bei Koffern mit unklarem Inhalt usw. Das Autonome Fahren uvm. Die App hat im Übrigen einen Modus "Spielen", in dem viele Programme bereits hinterlegt sind. Das fängt damit an, dass der Ranger wie ein ferngesteuertes Kettenfahrzeug bewegt werden kann, oder z.B. autonom fahren kann. Aufgrund der Modularität und der Erweiterbarkeit mit dem gesamten Arduino-Reich ist der Ranger ein Lehrspielzeug, das nicht in wenigen Tagen in der Ecke steht, sondern ein Kind (und Kinder in Erwachsenen) länger begleiten kann. Bei Kindern hätte ich einen Horizont von 8 Jahren aufwärts im Sinn, angesichts der Möglichkeit der Programmierung in C, sowie der schier unendlichen Erweiterbarkeit. Zugreifen. Hier macht man gar nichts falsch. Ein Kind kann gar nicht anders, als hier lernen.

Costruzione facile e divertente. Programmazione abbastanza intuitiva e che apre molte opzioni e variabili. Non assegno 5 stelle in quanto funziona solo con collegamento USB. Sulla confezione non è specificato che manca la chiavetta USB per bluetooth

A mí hijo le ha encantado. El único problema que le veo, de momento, es que el ángulo del sensor de ultrasonidos es bastante "meh" y no es muy preciso. Aún así, para aprender a programar y los fundamentos de la robótica es perfecto.

C'est un kit "clef en main' : très belle qualité (les composants aluminium sont bien usinés). Ça se monte assez simplement. Si c'est juste pour jouer" à "un truc roulant radiocommandé" : passez votre chemin. Vous trouverez des jouets beaucoup moins chers et plus efficaces. NB : ça rame avec un alimentation sur piles, avec une batterie de plus haut voltage c'est mieux apparemment. C'est un support physique à l'apprentissage de la programmation à des enfants : pas avant 10 ans à mon avis. Vous trouverez des ateliers pédagogiques sur la Toile. Il est très important de se dire qu'il faut donc être prêt à passer du temps avec vos enfants. Sinon, ça va les amuser une heure ou bien, il faudra attendre qu'ils soient grands pour revenir dessus d'eux-mêmes (si les écrans, qui leur pompent le cerveau, ne les auront pas transformés en parfaits petits consommateurs d'ici là...). C'est donc résolument un outil éducatif ! Cela dit, si vous êtes plus impliqués et que vous êtes prêts à passer plus de temps à la préparation, vous pouvez faire la même chose en achetant vos composants (cf. Arduino et consorts...) et faire tout vous-même : c'est beaucoup moins cher. Le logiciel Mblock vous permettra de les piloter aussi. J'insiste en étant à la limite du balourd : il nécessite de passer du temps avec vos rejetons au début pour le moins...

La verdad, aunque es un poco limitado en cuanto a lo que puede llegar a programarse por los sensores y los modelos que se llegan a montar, es muy divertido se puede controlar desde un móvil o tableta, lo he probado con android y apple y funciona perfectamente. A destacar que es una buena alternativa también como concepto juguete coche teledirigido, ya que lo montas y sin necesidad de programación puedes usarlo directamente con una app
