WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners: Piano Pieces In The C 5-Finger Scale | With Teacher Duets Review: Confidence-building books for my pre-teen students! - Love the Rock Repertoire books! Especially for my pre-teen students right now, who want more "grown-up" sounding music but aren't quite ready to tackle that level yet. These books allow me to teach important concepts, but what I love most is that the music keeps their attention and is easily mastered, so they come to lessons excited and motivated. I use these to supplement their method books, to bridge gaps in between levels if they need more repetition with certain concepts, and, now in this time of remote learning, as confidence building pieces they can complete without me sitting right next to them. These books are a go-to for me now. Every single piece in them is valuable. Every. Single. Piece. Review: Great for improving overall musicianship for all levels - I have been using this series, Books 1 and 2, with both late elementary and high school students for sight reading and home practice, and I am amazed at how much my students’ note reading and rhythm abilities have improved. The pieces are carefully sequenced with step by step progression of rhythm values and pitch changes so that student are barely aware of the pieces becoming gradually more difficult. Further, as many others have attested, they are very modern/pop sounding, so students (and teachers) love to play them. There is also much room for players to add their own musical expression. You cannot go wrong with these books for so many different aspects of piano teaching....note reading, sight reading, steady rhythm, duet playing, musical expression... worth every penny.

Very engaging
This book is a fabulous resource for students who need extra practice and some spice added to their routine. The melodies are beautiful. It's especially great to help students with counting and keeping a steady beat, since they play along with the accompaniment track or do it as a duet.

Good for teen beginners
I bought this for my teenage grandson. He is able to follow along, which was the plan.

A good resource - if you know what to expect
I'll be honest: I wasn't sure I should give this 5 stars. The pieces in the book are not especially interesting, are locked into C 5-finger position, and are incredibly pattern based. But then I thought about the students I have used this book with, and realized how perfectly suited it was for them: - the older beginner who needed a book that LOOKED older but wasn't ready for repertoire yet - the student who rarely practices and needs something easy to accomplish each week to give them that sense of accomplishment and success - the student who struggles with bass clef note-reading but wants to make fun-sounding music - the student who needs a slower-paced method with lots of review but doesn't want it to LOOK like it's a slower-paced method with lots of review. And that's why I gave it 5 stars. Because it can be the absolute right tool for the right job...if you know what to expect.

Fantastic piano duets!!
As a piano teacher, it can be difficult to find "fun" beginning repertoire for older beginners. This is such a great resource for me as an ace up my sleeve - the duets are just challenging enough to hold their interest but not too hard for them to actually play. They feel accomplished, and the songs sound amazing! I also use it as a fun sight-reading resource with my more advanced students, and they often ask to play one at the end of lessons. I highly recommend!!

Mature sounding while simple
I have an adult student recovering from a stroke, and this book has been extremely helpful. The pieces sound mature and contemporary, but are simple enough for her to experience success as she works at regaining her skills. I also use it for my older beginner students, but it really shines for my teens. The authors have additional support materials available on their blog, and a support group for teachers on FB that is highly recommended.

What a fun book!
I am new to WunderKeys curriculum and was so eager to introduce this book to one of my teen-beginners. We had a lesson last night and I introduced this book at the end of our lesson. She and I played through the first page of the teacher/student duet and she was ecstatic! We went through her part twice before including the teacher portion. She was so excited to have a new book with "super fun music," she said. She has a parent who also plays, which will make practicing at home even more fun as they'll be able to do the duets at home too! I'm really looking forward to getting into the rest of the books and introducing them to my kiddos!

Super aburrido, muy elemental incluso para principiantes nivel 1. No lo recomiendo para nada.

This book (and book 2) has given myself, my own children AND my piano students of all ages, hours of pleasure. Both major and minor tunes are lovely and so memorable that my students ask for their favourites by name according to their own mood. When I exclaim 'ah yes, I love that one too' we go on to have a fantastic duet moment that leaves them feeling musically inspired and "capable". And that is the beauty of this book, it's empowering! It's the only book I NEVER lend out. I am a huge fan of Andrea Dow's music for teens, her books and teen solos are, in a word, gorgeous.

Love this series of books so much. We have four Wunderkeys books now and they're all great! Played the first duet with my 11 year old and he said "It really sounds like a song!".

As a piano teacher I'm always on the hunt for new books and I was really glad to find this one. This book has been enjoyed by my older beginners including adults, and is also great to use for sight reading exercises. The student part is very simple, using basic note reading (in one position) and note values, but the addition of a well written duet part is fantastic, and keeps students happy and engaged. Particularly for adult students who can get a little bit antsy in the early days, this collection can give a sense of accomplishment which makes them (and me!) happy. Students can go to the website and access the accompaniment parts online - unlike other books/tutor systems this is not app based, just mp3 stream/download which makes it very accessible. There are also a few youtube demonstrations of the pieces. General info for other piano teachers: Can be used within a few weeks of learning once basic note reading is covered, includes hands separate pieces to ones with simple two note chords and very simple hands together. Only crotchet to semibreves used. Very little use of accidentals (mainly ef flat) and all the pieces are mostly 2 pages long with teacher and student parts on opposing pages. Highly recommend.

How do you want to make teens passionate about music if you-teacher are not having?! This book provides fun for all! Easy to sight-read accompaniments and great beginners pieces or also good to use as sight-reading exercises for late beginners! And it sounds amazing!
