The Meltdown (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #13)

Getting a child interested in reading is not always easy, and usually I have to remind about reading time. But with this book, it’s different. My child picks it up and starts reading without being pushed, and even asks for more books like this. I really appreciate authors who can make reading fun and engaging for kids. I work at a school and see the same thing with other children — during free time, some of them choose to read books like this instead of doing something else. That says a lot. If your child doesn’t enjoy reading or needs extra motivation, this kind of book can really help build that interest. Highly recommend.

After all the volumes, all the silly adventures, all the ridiculous gags, these books still hit the mark for grade schoolers. My son and all his friends adore this series. My only complaint is the author's grammar and sentence structure is, while conversational, is poor and often incorrect -- and sets a terrible example to growing minds. e.g. "Me and Billy went to the store." instead of, "Billy and I went to the store." It makes me nuts that my son is getting early reading skills through such a lazy version of English.
