The Best Phone I've Owned, But....
The Mate 20 Pro is by far the best phone I've owned. It's fast with no lag or stutters. Feature packed UI which isn't as bad as what I was expecting. It all seems to work well together. The camera is exceptionally good. I couldn't find any weak points at all with this. Audio quality through the speakers is quite average but then it's a different story through the earphones. Using Player Pro and with a Dolby Atmos switched off, I found the sound exceptionally good, in fact the best by far of any previous phones I've had. Face Unlock is super fast and secure. The embedded fingerprint scanner is excellent. No more having to mess about with rear fingerprint readers. An excellent phone. It's the first phone to excite me in years, but....GREEN SCREEN ISSUE. A lot of the early production units that were fitted with an LG screen have suffered from a green coloured light bleed around the edges. This unit was affected by it and had to be returned for a refund. Using other retailers before I used Amazon, in total I've sent back 5 phones affected by this problem. All retailers including Amazon were great at exchanging or refunding. My complaint here is with Huawei. Huawei have yet to issue a formal statement about what has been known about for weeks. Instead they seem to be using their customers to seek out all the affected units for them instead of issuing a product recall. Not good at all, and shame on Huawei for how they have handled this problem. If you're prepared for a possible disappointment, if you get a bad screen, and the hassle of having to return for refund or replacement, then stick with it because the phone is worth the effort. I finally got a good phone with a great screen and 6 days there's no issues at all.

Do not buy this phone - yet. There is an issue with the screen.
I purchased this phone in October and it started to have the well documented screen bleed issue just 3 months later. The item should have been dealt with as a warranty repair but Huawei got me to send it to SBE Uk. The phone was immaculate - it did not even have a finger print on it but they found a reason to say it should be chargeable! £314 they quoted and yet this is a well documented manufacturing fault. It is such a shame as the phone is excellent, the camera just brilliant - Huawei shocking, SBE are liars, Amazon themselves would not do the right thing either. £899 I paid - I just cannot believe it. So, until they sort out the defective manufacturing fault with their screens I suggest you don't buy this phone.

Super phone, outstanding camera
My previous phone was an iPhone 6S . It was nice enough as it goes, but as I am planning a 4 week trip abroad I wanted something with a better camera. After ploughing through reviews and comments I decided to leave the Apply system and buy this Android phone. There are a few niggles (the prompting from Huawei to let them into your email) for one example, but for the most part the tailored Android system seems to work fine with all my apps. The phone itself is excellent. The signal pickup (EE) is very strong in this area. It is a known bad area for mobile signals, so credit to this phone for getting 3 bars when my other phone (on O2) gets nothing at all! The audio quality is first class, both received and sent. The screen is easy to use, but the rounded glass body takes a bit of getting used to if you’ve used a ‘flat’ phone previously. All my apps run well, and quickly, and I can even do some photo editing in LightRoom on it, suck is the power of the processor. The quality of the screen is stunning. Everything is sharp and bright. The camera is something else - in a good way. The quality of images from the camera are outstanding. It even has a RAW facility (something only found previously on high end DSLR cameras) and this enables you to access the original (large) and unprocessed camera file and apply your own sharpening, correct exposure errors, etc. I suspect very few users of this phone will actually use this but, as a photographer by profession, I am using it all the time. I have never paid this kind of money for a phone before, but I can see why it costs what it does. A fantastic piece of equipment.

Fantastic flagship phone
It's been almost two weeks now since I've been using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. I received this product as part of a review program in return for an unbiased review, and so I've been putting it through it's paces. I would consider myself a heavy phone user, normally by around 7pm, I'm reaching for the charger with my old phone. Not so with the Mate 20 Pro. The battery is immense! I can easily double the screen time from my old phone using this one! So that's a good point. Another good point, the camera. At first I wasn't amazed, then I released you must change resolution in settings. Default is 10 meg pixels, switching to 40mp gives amazing results. BTW, switching to 40mp disables the zoom and wide lens options, so remember to switch back to 10mp to get the use of those lenses back. About those other lenses, I've found the wide angle extremely useful, fitting in to the frame a lot more when there is no option to walk further back from what you want to capture. Beware though, there can be barrel distortion if you get too close to your subject using this wide lens. The telephoto I'm not so sure about. Granted it does get the long shots, but the quality to my eyes could be improved. It's a small niggle, but overall, considering, all the cameras as a package, I really can't grumble. The 3D live maker app is immense fun and should be your 1st app to download when you get your Mate 20 Pro. It shows off the forward facing 3d scanner to it's best. Bringing small toys to life is so much fun, even for a nigh on 50 year old kid like me. That same front scanner is also used for facial unlock. This works in total darkness, and I find it can unlock faster than the in screen finger print sensor. I've found the finger print sensor to be accurate I'd say 80% of the time. I am using a film type screen protector, so going without may improve on that, but personally I prefer the odd miss read knowing I have the security of the screen protection. BTW, don't bother with tempered glass screen protectors if you ever want to use the fingerprint sensor. The few I tried were abysmal, so that is one downside of having that sensor embedded in the screen. The only other problem I've come up against is using Google Assistant. You say "OK Google", to wake phone, however, I've found then that although the dots on the bottom are waiting for your next dictation, the mike is turned off. Maybe it's a Huawei problem, maybe Google? (Edit. I fixed this problem by uninstalling google assistant, and re-installing it) All in all I've immensely enjoyed using the Mate 20 PRO, 5 STARS

Good but...
I expected the back of the black phone to be textured for grip. It is a disappointing grey shiny surface. The display is very good. The processing speed is quick. The battery does not last as long as it should for the spec, the power saving modes are ok but they turn off the screen within seconds. The external storage capacity is through nano sim card upto 256 GB max. Internal storage is a decent 128 GB. I haven't tried the triple lens camera for photos and videos properly yet. So far I'm pleased with it but will update the review. I bought it from Amazon Prime as new for £403. If you want a good mid range phone then this is mid range +. It has excellent reviews but I don't think it as good as I expected. The phone I bought came with Google Play store and has Android 9 with all the usual apps. Perhaps I'm too fussy, but overall it is good value. The reviews on YouTube raised my expectations, but if I'm objective, this phone has loads of spec for your bucks. This is my first Huawei phone, I think they have made an excellent effort here, and will give the competition much to think about. It's great news for consumers who want quality products at an affordable price.

So far, VERY impressed
I have an iPhone XS Max 256Gb & love it. I needed a good second phone & almost went for an S9 Pro but missed out on a deal from another retailer when the same deal I was looking at was on HotUkDeals - just as I was buying it, I got a phone-call - by the time the call ended they’d sold out - I was annoyed then but am actually happy that happened now. I’m also getting £100 cash back for a Huawei deal that is ongoing as I type this. All around its a much better phone except for 2 things in my opinion: 1) The speakers are fairly good - stereo - but nowhere near as good as the iPhones and from what I read, the S9’s either, 2) Whilst its dual-SIM which is a plus - in lieu of the second SIm you can instead buy a NM memory card. So its not a MicroSD - it’s an NM and they’re not cheap. So there’s the 2 reasons. In contrast to those points, the speaker are more than adequate - built-in phone speakers (even the iPXsM) are never great anyway & on the memory card, well NM cards are technically much faster than MicroSD - so its understandable that they’re moe expensive - albeit, the main reason for their cost is probably because there are far fewer customers for the NM cards as they’re proprietary for Huawei. This next bit isn’t a number 3 (as the S9 doesn’t have this feature at all!) - but reverse changing (which for me will be occasionally useful) is exceptionally slow. So 5 mins charge from the Mate 20 Pro charging my iPXsMax = just 1%. So ok to get your phone going in an emergency but plan on at least an hour for perhaps 8-10%. Otherwise - it really is excellent, it is a gorgeous phone and so well made too. There we are happy to answer any Q’s :)

Not a fan
I have been an absolute fan of the Huawei Mate 9 and 10. Brilliant phones. I do not like the Mate 20 Pro. It has a very nice screen. The screen curvature makes it hard to hold in a comfortable landscape position without pressing the screen and adds absolutely nothing to the device. Google pay refuses to work with this device for me, I've tried everything that has been suggested to me to resolve the issue but it just isn't detected. NFC works fine, but I don't know why google pay doesn't work with this Mate 20 Pro. The sound quality of the speakers has been diving since the Mate 9 Pro. The sound is now located in the USB port and is extremely poor. The lack of a 3.5mm jack is not unexpected given Huawei's desperation to attract Apple's audience but is still extremely annoying in any phone. Phone performs well and the battery life lasts an excellent amount of time. Fingerprint reader in-screen is very, very bad - especially in comparison to the Mate 9 and Mate 10. I have heard the face recognition is really good in the Mate 20 Pro, I have a beard (and that's probably not good for face recognition) and this phone cannot recognise my face probably 60% of the time. I am extremely aggravated by a strange delay that occurs when trying to delete gmail notifications from the notification - it takes about 5-10 seconds to respond. This is not something I've experienced in any other phone. It isn't a big deal but I don't understand why this happens and find it aggravating. I find the screen easily scratchable and have so far not found a screen protector that hasn't lasted more than 2 weeks due to the screen curvature. The camera seems good. Sometimes. The 40MP camera doesn't seem to take any particularly special pictures in quality - it seems to take very high quality blurry pictures. Like seeing the blur in high definition. The other camera is 10MP only and also seems to take blurry pictures. The ultrawide lens is a good addition. Frankly not a good purchase for the price at all. if you are considering a Huawei Phone, a Mate 10 Pro is an excellent choice over this pointlessly curved device.

Green Light Bleeding Screen-Dissapointed
Updated 19-11-18: just after 8 days noted that the screen is showing bleeding. Disappointing and returned. Hope this gets fixed in the next batch. Downgrading my five star to one star. Review before the green bleeding issue Have been using this for more than a week now. Took loads of photos, surfed, watched movies, used google navigation, listened music and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The in-built fingerprint works fine, the battery is just great and excellent super charging capacity. All in all a good package. Cool Stuffs: 1. Charge the phone super quick. 2. Long press the volume down button and make a call using your voice 3. Double click the volume down button and take a photo even if the phone is locked 4. the camera can take some supercool, sharp pics 5. Good image stabilisation. 6. Super battery life. 7. Slim, beautiful screen (No green line for me) 8. Fits well in hand because of its long slender design. Minor flaws noted 1. the EMUI will take time to get used to. But you can use a launcher of your choice and mitigate this issue 2. the camera is good but sometimes looses focus on the subject 3. wish I had the headphone jack 4. Finger print sensor sometimes asks for re-try. Thankfully the facial recognition will easily open the device even if the finger print sensor asks this. But it works well if you orient your finger correctly 5. No dual sim for the base price. Will need to pay extra for this which I think is a overkill.
