Jack Black, two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett and Kyle MacLachlan star in The House with a Clock in its Walls. Based on the beloved children's classic written by John Bellairs, this magical adventure tells the story of 10-year-old Lewis, who goes to live with his uncle in a creepy old house. But this town's sleepy façade jolts to life when Lewis discovers that the house has a mysterious tick-tocking sound coming from its walls. Determined to find the ticking, Lewis uncovers a secret world of warlocks and witches and accidentally awakens the dead - forcing Lewis, his Uncle Jonathan and their neighbour, Mrs Zimmerman into a race against time to save the world. Review: A good all round movie - A good movie enjoyed by all the family. Review: Mild to Moderate scary movie ok to watch with my granddaughter who is a sensible 8 year old - I watched this movie on my own to check if it was suitable for my granddaughter when she stays over at the weekend. It has some scary moments but some were done in a way to make fun at them also. It is a story about two neighbours the character played by Jack Black has a house that makes a ticking noise and there is some strange things in his cupboards. He has been trying to find the clock that is making the ticking noise in his walls for some time and puts pumpkins outside his front door to keep bad spirits away. His neighbour is a sort of witch and tries to help him but they continually call each other names which gives a interest for adults watching this movie with children. My granddaughter watched half the movie then decided it was too scary so we will watch again in a few weeks she has already watched what I think is the scariest part when Jack Blacks business partner comes back from the dead it has a twist at the end obviously which I will not tell, don,t want to spoil it I am glad I bought it.

MAGICAL MAYHEM
With Warlocks,Witches and things that go''tock'' in the night this is magical entertainment that'll bring smile or two along the way. 10 year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) after losing his parents in a car-crash goes to live with his rather strange yet magical uncle Jonathan Barnavelt (Jack Black) a Warlock in his big house, he'll meet also his uncle's best friend Florence Zimmerman ( Cate Blanchett) a witch with even greater powers than his uncle. During his first night in the big house he see's a light beneath his bedroom door and decides to investigate, it's his uncle who unbeknown to Lewis is trying to find the clock which makes a loud ticking noise and seems to be hidden behind the walls of the house, when Lewis see's his uncle smash a hole in the wall with an axe he becomes frightened and try's to leave, however in doing so furniture comes to life and prevents him leaving.. seems the house likes Lewis being there. At his new school Lewis doesn't really fit in, he's seen as a strange boy by his fellow pupils, however he does befriend one boy who he takes back to the big house.....well, there is a cupboard Lewis has been forbidden by his uncle to try and open, however rules like that don't apply to all ? In the cupboard a book of spells is found by Lewis and his so-called friend, Lewis who had been learning from books lent to him by his uncle and guidance on magic will try to impress Tarby on Halloween night by using the books spell in the graveyard....however what he awakes should have been left to lie. Jonathan's uncle who knows the power of the elusive clock Isaac Izard is about to wreak havoc unless Jonathan, Florence and indeed Lewis can stop him. This is in the main a fun-ride that most will enjoy, especially if a fan of Jack Black, with good special-effects along the way definitively a good family watch....though a word of caution, it is sometimes quite dark and is not in my opinion one for the younger viewers.

Great family viewing
This is a very good, light-hearted film and ideal for family viewing. However, it might be a little frightening for young children to watch on their own. Having gauged the response of our children, a suggested minimum age for viewing this would be seven years old since some of the eerie scenes with toys coming to life might cause nightmares!

Nostalgia and magic await
I never thought I would love this film but was I surprised. The year is 1955 in New Zebedee Michigan. Two ex magicians & warlocks are searching for a clock until Louis comes along and changes their lives after the young lads' parents are killed in a tragic car crash. Filled with fun characters, comedy and thrills, Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings), Jack Black (School of Rock and Jumanji 1 & 2) show off their magic skills in this comedy of belonging and acceptance as they race against time to stop a clock within the walls.
