Something weird about the shape
I've been goldsmithing and silversmithing for some time now, and generally know what I'm doing when it comes to the basics like melting down scrap. But the large crucible had me doubting myself to no end. I couldn't melt anything without my (Smith Little propane and oxygen) torch blowing out. I tried everything. Changing the propane pressure, oxygen psi, more or less of either at the torch end. More metal. Less metal. You name it. It would take me 2 or more to finally get an ounce or two melted enough to pour. I finally realized something about the shape of the crucible is causing the flow of heat or air or something to blow back on the torch and blow it out. Pulled the blob of half melted silver back out and put it in a small crucible and bam. Ingot poured in under 5 minutes.

Good, as described... used with SiBronze no problem... Needs to be glazed with borax first before use. NOT doing so will probably net a good Loss of melt to to slag encapsulation and sticking to porous ceramic surface. Can revive the melt after use by adding borax to reheated mass. Check out YouTube for glazing a crucible.
