Fresh mill is great!
I used this to mill cornflour for a corn casserole and it turned out great! I had been using popcorn to mill but this corn is much tastier and better for milling!

Great product
Absolutely love this. I have a grain mill and used this after I milled it to make cornbread and grits! I am very pleased with my purchase!

Seriously???
Here's the latest update: They sent me a new 25 pound bag of corn and it's simply fantastic! It looks really clean, 100% corn, and all of the kernels are whole, it almost looks washed and sorted. Sounds like they got off to a bad start selling the stuff at the bottom of the silo. I will definitely be buying this again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OK, so I changed my rating from one star to five stars. I contacted the manufacturer and they admitted that they have had a problem with grain at the end of their bins not being as clean as they should be. They are going to send out another bag of corn that is clean, no charge! I don't care how bad a product is, if the supplier stands behind their product and is willing to replace (or refund) that's all that really counts in my book! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ {My original review}: I've been looking for new grains for my grain mill and thought this would make a good corn bread. When I opened it up I found that it was extremely poor quality. There are corn stalks and other seeds in the mix (wheat?) as well as seed pods from who knows what kind of plant. And about half of the corn is broken into bits so it would be tough to even clean it up for a mill. My only hope is to screen out the whole corn with hardware cloth and pick out the corn husks. I'm guessing I'll probably lose half of the corn just cleaning it up. I would return it if I didn't get it so cheap, it was about $27 with free shipping and the shipping costs were about $20, so in reality I got if for about seven bucks. I'll probably try to clean it up or if I find something better I'll feed it to the squirrels. This is supposed to be for a grain mill and not for feeding wildlife, correct? 8(

Beautiful, clean, whole corn!
I have purchased other grains from Great River. Have been purchasing whole organic spelt from them for quite a few years. This purchase (whole corn) is every bit the quality I have come to expect from this company. I am very pleased. I bought this for two purposes: making foot warmers, and also to grind for baking cast iron skillet cornbread. I tried organic corn from the local feed mill, but it was so full of grit, stones, chaff and oats that it created a lot more work for me. I'm going to feed that bag to the squirrels and crows. This bag of organic, whole corn from Great River Organic Milling is beautifully clean throughout--it's just whole corn. I have bagged it into 6 gallon-size zip lock bags to help maintain freshness during storing and it was clean all the way to the bottom of the bag. I got about 1/2 teaspoon of dust at the bottom of the bag--amazing quality to me! I will definitely be ordering more of this in the future and would feel very comfortable recommending this food grade product to others. Thank you so much Great River! I am a big fan of your products.

Back to basics.
I’m not sure if corn is on the Periodic Table of Elements, but it should be. How much more basic can one get than breakfast cereals, movie snacks, chips and bread which all feature corn? There simply isn’t another choice. Sure the ‘Science Community’ will claim that the element ‘C’ is for carbon, but I’ve not had carbon on the cob or hot buttered pop carbon, so it doesn’t count. But if you enjoy or appreciate the many creations which originate with the humble dent corn kernel, then this product should be considered. According to the package it is ‘organic’ which is good, but not a consideration for me personally. I just wanted some bulk field corn at a decent price and this particular product met that requirement. Being able to make hominy or tortillas which have gone through nixtamalization requires this type of corn and is becoming a sort of lost technology. So a buck a pound delivered was close enough. The corn arrives in a box which contains the 25 pound bag, and has to be among the cleanest of bulk packaging I’ve ever seen. No burlap bag with jute stitching and stray twigs here, you get a double paper bag with a reinforced cotton closure. I removed about ten percent of the contents (2.5 lbs) and hand sorted it for any small stones (I let the big ones go by) or debris out of habit from all bulk agricultural products, and found nothing, not a single grain of sand. I transferred the corn to a glass container and found it to be utterly free of any chaff or flour which is actually quite common in such products. The kernels are representative from the entire ear (full flavor profile) with smaller, pop corn-esque grains and large, blaze yellow examples with an orange hue at the tips. This is your grandmother’s corn and it is a superior example to be sure. Clearly I’m dazzled by the product, price and free delivery to my door. Not that I would avoid carrying a 25 pound sack several hundred feet; OK, that was a lie. So if you’re making tortillas, grits, or moonshine, you would be hard pressed to find a better starting point than what should rightfully be the element of corn ‘C’.

Whole grain, organic corn
This is food grade, organic whole corn that I intend to store for grinding my own cornmeal. It was clean and unbroken. No bugs, as someone else had reported. It costs about 83 cents per pound. I got eight, one gallon mylar bags and two half gallon jars from 50 lbs of corn. I haven't gotten to grind in my Country Living Grain Mill yet. I'll update when I do! Update: This cornbread was made with the meal from the whole corn and the flour from my hard red winter wheat berries. I ground them in my Country Living Grain mill. If you like REAL cornbread, not corn cake, you'll love it.
