Camping & Survival: The Ultimate Outdoors Book Review: great book - I've had this book before and lost it unfortunately it doesn't say how to survive a crazy ex throwing all your belongings away :) But in all seriousness this is an excellent book and the one I had was the first edition this one has allot of new techniques ..covers so much information and allot of it is simple little tricks that I know I wouldn't have thought of.I recommend it to any outdoorsy individual ..its simple information that doesn't drag on and has loads of great pictures and diagrams. ..only downside is that due to its huge wealth of information its also a huge book so putting it in a backpack to bring on a serious hike and camping trip to practice some techniques in the book most likely will be out of the question ...so pick a chapter and practice before you decide to crash a plane on a mountain and have to build an igloo or try to trap a wolverine with a sapling and a rock Review: Quite possibly the most excellent bushcraft informational book that ever is available on the ... - Quite possibly the most excellent bushcraft informational book that ever is available on the market. Without hyperbole, every single scenario one could encounter in the wild. The book is straightforward, indexed wonderfully, and is unbelievable how much information the author stores between these pages. It is an essential part of my backpacking/hiking/camping kit; I believe the additional weight is worth the tradeoff of having this handy. Given the volume of information, it is not as in-depth as explanations for entirely new/novice backpackers. Therefore, I highly recommend that you read and understand the relevant portions of your trip, beforehand. Overall, if you are in the market for an informational book on survival, shelter, bushcraft, animal tracking, and quite possibly any other issue you will encounter in the wild, look no further than this book.

A good basic guide book
I have an older copy of this manual and have gotten a lot out of it over the years. Bought the newest edition to send to a friend who is making a solo canoe expedition in Alaska this summer and he is having a good time reading it. The manual covers a lot of ground and contains good basic information as well as some clever camping/survival tips. I'd recommend it for anyone's home library if they do any hiking, camping, canoeing etc.

The best outdoors book !!!!!
This is the best and most complete outdoors book! I also suggest that you add Medicine for the Outdoors by Paul Auerbach to complete your library.

The Manual for Outdoors Camping and Survival
More detailed and definitely larger, with 630 pages, than Wilderness Camping and Hiking, Camping and Survival will make a great addition to any nature or outdoor enthusiasts library, an certainly give any person some knowledge of what to do in survival situations. Packed full of info, photos, and illustrations, this book will surely capture the attention and interest of anyone with an interest in nature. This book also companions great with Camping and Wilderness Survival, the 1080 page bible of the outdoors. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Great Resource!!
This book is full of useful information and wilderness survival techniques: from knots to traps, shelter building to trapping for food. Where not to walk/camp during a lightning storm to what animals to look out for. I would highly recommend this book to my friends!

We gave this book to our Vancouver family, who is into every outdoor adventure you could imagine. We all found this book to be a treasure trove of useful and interesting information. The explanations of how a compass works and why the true north deviates from the magnetic north is the best I have seen on this topic. The Vancouverites, who had already had a course in avalanche safety, found the information in Camping and Survival more extensive, and better described than anything they heard in their course. What makes this book so wonderful is that the pictures tell as much as the words do so that you really do get some understanding of the basic issues involved. You end up learning a lot of science without pain. This book was recommended to us by a friend whose 10 year old grandson loves this book as much as we oldsters. It is a great coffee table book because you can find interesting stuff on every page.
