Another great Duel version of a classic game
The older I get, the harder it seems to be to get a group together to play games. Every once in a while when hanging out with family I can get something going, but more often than not my playing has been limited to monthly game nights with one particular friend. I have found Duel versions of classic tabletop games really do a fantastic job of retaining the feel of the original while streamlining the mechanics for just two players. Azul Duel is no exception. Though the original actually plays better with two players than most games, this version is truly designed around the direct competition and is actually quite a bit more complex. Building your placement grid as you go along is truly tricky, and there is a good balance to choosing between grabbing tokens, grabbing new placement tiles, or grabbing wildcard tiles (if available) that can be used later. Overall, I would say this is an excellent two player version, and I envision getting a lot of rounds out of it going forward.

Very fun, but complicated if this is your first Azul game.
This game is a lot of fun, as it is made to play with 2 players (and only 2). Warning: The rules are a bit complicated, and could be overwhelming and confusing if you have not played other Azul games. Since this is for 2 people, I wish the box and components were smaller so it would be easier to travel with.

Perfect as always!
My husband and I are thrilled with this version! Azul: Duel keeps the aesthetic and satisfying tactile feel of the original, but adds more interaction and excitement. The gameplay is fast-paced and tense, with constant competition for the right tiles — a direct but elegant duel. It’s perfect for two-player evenings: beautiful, smart, and full of new tactical choices each time. It’s definitely a keeper in our collection. But still, Queen’s Garden remains our favorite.

Pretty similar to the others
Pretty fun spin on the other Azuls, still not as good as Queen’s Garden though! And for two players, I still prefer Splendor duel over all.

Great new 2 person game!
As usual the latest Azul game does not disappoint. It's a bit more strategic than other games but excellently designed and a fun two player version. I do wish the box was deep enough that you didn't have to take the tower piece apart to put it in box but other than that it's fine.

Best Azul Yet (for 2 people only)
My wife and I are inveterate Azul players, starting with the original game back during the initial COVID lockdowns. We've since bought 3 other iterations, not counting this one, which I just got her for Christmas 2025. It's the most elaborate, byzantine, complicated version yet, giving strong Cones of Dunshire energy. BUT, if you love Azul and play it a lot, it will simply feel like a game that has taken every element of regular Azuling (tile collection, arrangement, scoring, bonuses) and added a layer of complexity. It took us quite a while to set up, read the instructions, and play the first game, but it was well worth it. Once we did that, subsequent games have moved quickly. We only ever play two-person games, but it's worth noting that this Azul is designed *specifically* for two people.

Super fun but a steep learning curve
Having played Azul many times before, I assumed Azul Duel would be easy to learn. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I ended up watching a 25 minute video on how to play which was really helpful (I'm definitely more of a visual learner). But after we started playing, it's really fun! My husband and I love playing 2 player games so it's nice that Azul came out with a 2 player specific game. It is entertaining because there isn't a distinct strategy that works everytime so it's fun to experiment with different strategies and shift in game.
