So funny. Review: One of the great comic masterpieces of all time - This is one of the greatest comic films ever made. Jack Lemon and Sandy Dennis (she gave me one of my beloved cats long ago!) move from Ohio to the Big Apple to start a new and exciting urban life. Almost immediately everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong--a hundred times over. There is a scene where Lemon just can't take any more and he is standing in the street screaming at the city that it can't defeat him. A riot. You simply won't find a funnier or or more charming film. A masterpiece.

Painful but funny!!
This film preceded the Lampoon vacation movies made in the 80s about every imaginable thing going wrong on a vacation or short junket. Made in 1970, the film is dated, but it’s still fun when you’re not cringing at all the rhapsodized scenarios and watching both Jack Lemmon and his feckless spouse played by Sandy Dennis suffer through one ordeal after another. The Lemmon character, a native Ohioan, is lured to the Big Apple on an interview for what he imagines is a dream job. From their refusal of a meal on the plane and the inevitable delay in landing in NYC, to the hotel room they reserved being given to another boarder because of their late arrival, this screwball comedy will leave you wondering if any of these crazy things might happen to you. This one is best viewed with plenty of good wine!!

A Classic Movie
I love this movie. I've watched it several times throughout the years. The storyline is simple, it's the acting that draws me back in every time! The casting was PERFECT. I've often wondered who could play these two characters better--- I run through different scenarios putting different people of that time period in the leads and just can't imagine the same quality movie with anyone else. Jack Lemmon has simply perfected the Everyman with Neurosis'-- he's got the part down so well I wonder what he was like in real life and don't want to know! It would run it for me :) And Sandy Dennis--- I can't imagine anyone else bringing to the part a character so trusting, so understanding of her neurotic husband, so determined to keep a stiff upper lip even when he wont give an inch. Such a dithering, stammering, smiling, nice person put in such a difficult, harried situation with a loving but uber controlling husband-- who else but Sandy Dennis could make you believe this is a REAL person you're watching and not someone acting this way?! :) I just love her! And him... and the movie. Five stars!

Jack & Sandy ... take New York by storm .....
The late Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis were the perfect pair of actors to play these parts. Let's be honest... if I had a husband that was that "annoying".. I would go berserk. !!! Now this movie was filmed in 1970 .. and yes Hollywood did make a re-make of the film some decades later. Play write Neil Simon was overtly creative and and director Arthur Hiller . Certainly delivered the goods... Jack Lemmon was very annoying and rather pompous in this role of a "Know -it all " husband.. Sandy Dennis who died in 1992 (Ovarian Cancer) did an excellent job playing the supportive wife. She won an Academy award for her supporting role in "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf"? This movie ..is one that makes you .. think fast on your feet! New York is not the type of city.. where you twiddle your thumb's ... ! They must have hated all of the running, sitting and hi jinks that they engaged in while traveling on a Plane, Taxi cabs, Trains ,, the park, Boy what a park ..? I think that was Central Park .."?? I recognized a few famous faces ... Had they stayed the night at the hotel lobby ..instead of listening to some stick up man.. luring them into some con. That they could end up staying at a hotel for the night..? Yeah right ..! You can never really trust people ... This movie is filled with adventure... Vintage cars, clothes and just plain laugh's .... Oh ....George ..!

One of The Funniest Movies Ever Made
After this movie first came out some years ago, I think I must have seen it a dozen times. I can still see it today and die laughing. Jack Lemmon was one of the best actors of all time including the funniest. I bought this movie to give to friends who are much younger than me who lived in NYC for a few years. They fell over laughing, my friend saying, she wasnt sure she would have moved to the city if she had seen this movie first. Lemmon and his wife live in the midwest and they are flying to the city for a job interview and one disaster after another occurs. Seems there is a garbge strike going on in NY at that time with garbage all over everywhere (can you imagine the most exciting city in the world covered in garbage!); their hotel room had not been held for them and there were not rooms to be found. At one time they are in Central Park, the wife limping having broken a shoe and this is at night of all times. The end of the movie is a real corker. I wish we had the talents we had back then to make really good movies and the actors in them. This is a 'don't miss" movie.

Me ha gustado el trabajo de Jack lemon lo estresante y divertido como era el. Muy buen actor y las peripecias que pasa en Nueva York. Para mí muy buena la película la vería un montón de veces. Quién no la haya visto se la recomiendo.
