Not for the faint of heart. It will require you to cut a large hole in your drywall. Install was a snap, I had my home builder put power outlets mid-way up the wall so I could cut them out and use this. The surge protection combined with the angled recessed outlets was the primary reason I went with this product over similar setups. The angled sockets allow my Samsung LED TV to rest flush against my wall when mounted using a picture frame wire system. Below this unit I use Arlington Industries LVCE2 Low Voltage Mounting Bracket with Cable Wall Plate, 2-Gang, 2-Pack to make the entire install look clean and professional. I was able to fit four Monoprice 10ft Slim Series High Speed HDMI Cable w/ RedMere Technology , one CAT5e cable, and one optical audio cable through the opening. I've bought a few items on Amazon like this one and the Arlington cable plate and I've noticed several reviews where people were complaining about the plastic breaking and things not being "heavy duty". My suggestion is to stop torqueing the screws down to the point you crack the plastic, strip the screw heads, or damage your drywall. These are not load bearing items; they do not need to support much weight. As soon as you feel the drywall tabs press into the back of your wall give it one more spin. Shake it with your hand, if the box doesn't move you're done.

I mounted this behind a big screen. Installation was easy as the mounting bracket/wings are built into the plate itself. Just be careful to not overtighten it and strip the holes. The wide opening allows for a number of cables to be easily fed through. This opening would be overkill if you just need to run one or two wires. Amazon also keeps the replacement surge protector fuses in stock in case you have a blow out. I highly recommend for a large media center or if you just want to leave room to grow.

I purchased this some time ago, but it is a great product. Easy to install and makes for a nice clean look for my wires behind the tv. I have since bought 4 more of these for my and my parents home. I would definitely recommend!

Although I'd spent some time in the past putting car stereos in and hooking up home stereos, I knew next to nothing about hanging a flat screen television on the wall and tucking the wires behind the wall -- until now. This product allows for a practically seamless install of the required wiring (power, signal, etc.) for a flat screen television. Piece of advice: Line up the port panel on your television with this product if you plan on using a 'flat to the wall' mounting bracket or you will quickly discover that you may not have room to connect certain wires to the back of the TV. I didn't have that problem, but a buddy of mine did and BOY did he get upset at himself afterward! Regarding the surge protector aspect of the product, thankfully we have not had any unfortunate circumstances put that to the test. As far as I have seen so far, only Datacomm makes replacement Surge Blocs and they do not sell them locally in my area. Therefore I assume you may want to do as I did and purchase a few spares online so you can avoid any potential TV downtime if/when the Surge Bloc that came w/ the unit does its job correctly... and sacrifices itself to save the television.

I bought this item because it provides an electrical outlet and a port for cables for my wall mounted tv. Although I downloaded the instructions and template before I ordered it, I kind of assumed it was the size of a 2 gang electrical box. It is bigger. I had to place it carefully considering the location of the wall mount for the tv and the size of my set. It fits below the wall mount and the bottom of my 46" tv. After reading reviews, I took measurements and made the hole smaller than the template. That worked out fine. The port for my 2 HDMI cords was more than adequate. I probably should have used a smaller alternative that would not take up more space than a 2 gang box because I did not require additonal port space for more cords. I wanted a box that would connect directly to an outlet and would provide surge protection. The alternative competitive models require an additional box at the bottom of the wall where the power cord would would exit. A cord would attach and then would have to be routed to a surge protector and then plugged into the wall. This model avoids this, but if the surge protector is tripped, the tv must be removed and a $13 replacement surge protector replaced within the outlet.

My company has been doing A/V and tech installs for a few years now and generally choose our tools and equipment that we install based on reviews and brand reputation. We've had good luck with that methodology and this product has been no exception. There are 2 version of this product. One with, and one without, surge protection. This one HAS surge suppression. But I would not necessarily trust high end equipment on it. You might want to consider a surge supressor with a equipment protection warranty to cover high end quipment. Works as advertised and very easy to install. I think the only way to improve would be with a better template. Although the paper printout worked, offering an already cut cardboard template would be cheap and would make installation easier.

great product, super fast shipping, couldn't ask for more. people need to be aware that this is probably 50% larger than a standard two gang wall outlet in case that is what they are expecting...
