Worth the money
Needed something so I could link my DFS Cine sofa to my Samsung TV without the awful loss of sound that Samsung imposes on non Samsung products. This did the trick, it’s easy to setup and links to the sofa via Bluetooth whilst still connected via optical cable to my original surround sound system. I’ve got to turn the sound down on the original surround sound otherwise I get an echo effect. It also incorporates a boost switch that makes the sound go even louder. Bit pricey for what it is but worth the money.

Brilliant gizmo
Brilliant, as I connect to sky box direct by optical cable,so I can listen to the tv while the tv is muted. It's like wearing headphones for my tv as I use Samsung Buds 2 Pro. The advert is wrong, the device is powered by usb, it is the volume remote that has batteries. Instructions straight forward.

Great product, but a couple of things to be aware of.
Great value for money, does exactly what it says it does, easy to set up. So no issues there. There are a couple of things to note, which are not the fault of the device but you should know about before you get disappointed and think you have to return it becuase you might assume the tranmitter is faulty. Check that your headphones have Aptx. I assumed that my Sony noise-cancelling headphones would have it but they don't so there is a small lag issue. It's not enough to notice if you are watching the TV on its own with just the headphones on, everything seems to match up very well and i don't notice any lag in that situation, however if you're watching it with your headphones and other people in the room have the soundbar on, there is a slight echo, the sound comes out of the soundbar before it comes out of your headphones. So you will need noise cancelling on and the volume up to try and mitigate this. Maybe changing my headphones will eliminate the problem completely, but that sounds like an expensive thing to try only to find out that it's got something to do with physics and the speed of sound and it's not a transmitter issue at all. The other thing to take into account is that the signal is very strong. Yesterday I spent ages trying to fix my phone including resetting the bluetooth function and repairing it, because my phone kept dropping the connection to my headphones within seconds. I thought my phone was broken. It turned out that I'd left the transmitter switched on in the living room and despite being in the kitchen, my headphones were dropping the connection to my phone and reconnecting with the transmitter. You can tune out the slight echo once you get used to it, so I'd describe it as more of a niggle rather than an annoyance. So like I say, not exactly faults with the transmitter, but just something you might want to be aware of, all in all it's a great solution for TVs that no longer have a 3.5mm jack for people who want to use headphones.

Excellent
I work out in front of the TV and needed some earphones (the column of the TV was bothering my neighbours). This gadget allows me to use Bluetooth earphones while working out, perfect. It paired with my earphones instantly and required minimal set-up. I'm using the optical out pass through and powering it from a USB plug socket so I don't have to worry about battery life.

Poor customer support
Whilst this may be a good unit *if* you can get it to connect but don't expect useful help from customer support if you can't. They do not appear to read the details of the problem explained in emails. Returned for refund and cheaper 5.3 unit bought

Into the Bluetooth age.
Excellent bit of kit - purchased to power up my 40 year old JVC Hi-fi into the Bluetooth age. I needed an additional RCA/Aux lead so contacted the folks at Avantree who popped one in the post for me. As I wired things up I was a bit sceptical that it would work but as I popped in the Aux lead and started a CD unbelievable sounds came into my headphones. If that wasn’t enough to blow me away I then tried an LP on the turntable - incredible, even better sound quality, all with the freedom to walk around my house, cable free. A big thanks to Janice at Avantree for great help and customer support.

Mission accomplished!
I'm amazed at how well this transmitter has worked to solve the problem of inadequate bluetooth range from my TV. I have run a cable from the optical out port of my Samsung S95D to the optical in port of the transmitter, and a second cable from the optical out port of the transmitter to the optical in port of my Samsung soundbar. This has given me a rock solid bluetooth connection at much longer range to a pair of Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones, and preserved my ability to use the soundbar in tandem with the TV speakers for Samsung Q-Symphony sound at the same time. Considering I bought this unit at a Black Friday reduced price it has proved to be an absolute bargain.

Poor sound quality and poor feature set
The sound quality when hooked up to my Onkyo CD player (via aux and optical) was atrocious. Lots of clipping and distortion and crackling even at low volumes. Totally unsuitable for high quality music in spite of connecting to my Bluetooth DAC using aptX-LL. Worse using optical, but still very bad via aux. Buyers should be aware you cannot change the codec. If you connecting device supports low latency that is all you can use, which will be what most will want for TV and movies. It was OK connected to the TV in my limited testing. Sounded clearer than my CD player. I know the device is at fault as my CD player sounds crystal clear hooked up to a unbranded portable Bluetooth transmitter. I don't know if this player struggles with "line-level" input. I also think maybe the device is acting as a crude pre-amp and attenuator which is also adding distortion. I just wanted a clean pass through of stereo to my headphones. I was hoping to be able to hook up my TV via aux and CD player via optical, but as soon as you plug something into the aux input that take priority. There is also no way of switching inputs. I do believe older models allowed this. Really disappointed and back to the drawing board for an alternative. Not much good to say and this is my second Avantree device that hasn't lived up to the hype on the product page.

Excellent product, easy to set up and a great improvement on the 8-year old Avantree transmitter it replaced. Great sound and excellent range. I know longer get connection breaking down when at the opposite end of the house. Highly recommended for use with good headphones if you struggle with hearing TV sound clearly.
