I absolutely love the Litter-Robot 4. I love the ease of just filling it with litter and not having to constantly think about it. With two cats, I can usually go about two weeks before needing to change the bag in the drawer, which is a huge win. I have two larger cats — one is half Maine Coon and weighs around 15 pounds, and the other is about 12 pounds. Both fit in it perfectly and use it with no issues at all. I know some people worry it might be too small for bigger cats, but that hasn’t been my experience whatsoever. The adjustment period was super easy. Both cats got used to it very quickly, and there was no hesitation or stress. The biggest bonus for me is the lack of smell — there’s literally no odor. The only time I notice any smell at all is when it’s time to change the bag. I will never go back to a regular litter box again. It’s convenient, clean, and makes having cats so much easier. This supply kit fits my Litter-Robot 4 perfectly. The waste drawer liners are honestly my favorite part — they fit exactly right and don’t interfere with the sensors at all, which was a big concern for me. The cleaner wipes are great too. They’re effective without having a strong scent, which matters a lot because my older cat is extremely picky and sensitive to smells. No issues at all with her avoiding the box. I’ll be honest, I haven’t fully figured out the “official” placement for the OdorTrap packets yet. I just slide one under the plastic liner in the waste drawer. That said, I’m not even sure how much they’re doing because I never smell anything from the box unless it’s time to change the drawer — and even then it’s very faint. Overall, this is a super convenient refill kit if you already own a Litter-Robot. Everything fits as it should, works well, and makes maintenance easy without upsetting sensitive cats

Now I did not need this , but was a want . I already have two other auto cleaning litter boxes . I got this delivered and was blown away from the size of the box . This was fairly easy to set up , the mat inside was already attached and that was great . I went on the whiskers site and purchased the litter hopper to use with this . I highly recommend having that as it’s so much easier to fill once or twice a week and you always have the proper amount of litter . While this litter robot is cleaning I do not hear anything , it is very quiet . You could have this in your bedroom and never know it was working . Before setting my litter robot up I bought some food grade wax and food grade silicone spray . I used the food grade silicone spray on the rubber mat at the bottom and used the food grade wax on the rest of the inside ( used it just like car wax , wipe on and let it sit for ten minutes and rubbed it off using microfiber cloth) . Nothing sticks to the box this way . I’m using dr else’s unscented litter and it’s great , you choose the litter in the set up on the app . I wipe this down about three times a week , I bought baby wipes to clean with , even though the litter says dust fee or almost dust free you see the dust . I want this to be as clean as possible so the cats can enjoy it . I tried the ramp , but chose to take it away . My cats would go to the side and jump in and then jump out and avoided the ramp . I think the ramp is a nice idea and maybe as they age they may want them . The ramp does take a lot of space up and might not be good for small areas . I put my hand inside before letting the cats use as I was nervous about the safety of my cats . This does stop moving during cleaning and that is very important for me . I bought the litter robot bags , I have bought cheap drawstring bags that hold ten gallons and some off brand bags right here . They all work great , neither of them are best , but what’s best for me is what is cheapest . I make sure the bag is down at the bottom of the litter drawer and have all the air out , so I don’t have issues with the sensors , and they say to make sure you do this . I sprinkle in a little arm and hammer deodorizer in the bottom of the bag each time I replace and after two days I sprinkle a bit more . I use about half a teaspoon each week , and it does help control the dirty litter smell . The only time I smell anything is when I open the drawer right after a cat has used it , but that is expected , some people think there should be absolutely no smell . My only issue is one cat thinks this is a playground and rolls around in it and takes a nap , but that’s nothing bad as she only does it when it’s clean . I have three cats and only one kitty will not use this and I don’t know why , she likes cat boxes that are ground level . I highly recommend this litter box , it’s very easy to use , very safe , extremely reliable and easy to clean .

3rd update. I've now had it about a month, and after the initial issues mentioned below, it is been working faithfully ever since. Cat no longer runs in there to watch it run, thank heavens! He goes in, stays long enough to get weighed, pees or poops or both within a few minutes of each other sometimes, and 30 minutes later according to my decision, it goes on and cycles and gets rid of all the pee and poop balls and resets. Voila! And from my now experience I clean the litter tray underneath about twice a week now. Pull the drawer out, pull up the plastic bag and close it up, put in a new plastic bag, shove the drawer closed and you're done. Deposit the dirty bag into the garbage can and that's it. I did go in and use a spray they offer for sale on some paper towels and wiped down the inside of the drum in the last few days. I think I got it pretty clean. It's probably going to need a more thorough cleaning in the not too distant future. Probably during this month. I've ordered some other items for odor control but so far I haven't noticed any older coming from it other than when the trapdoor is open during the rotating cleaning process and you do get an odor coming up from the tray underneath but it's very brief. And if you're not standing near the robot, you're not going to smell it. I love this thing! I've changed it to five stars even though there was the electronic problem at the beginning. It was solved rapidly and the customer service is excellent. If I have any gripes at all it is that it takes between a week and 10 days to receive anything ordered. Amazon has us spoiled! Otherwise I can't complain. They don't mention replacing the sand although there's the option to clean all of the sand out and dump it into the tray down below so I think I will probably replace the sand once a month or something like that. The cat doesn't seem to mind it due to it being clean every time he goes in there with no residual poop or pee balls. But it will make me feel better replacing the sand periodically. I'm certainly not going to be spending nearly as much money on sand as I was with the regular sandbox. Will that savings pay me back for the cost of this robot? No, but the convenience of cleaning it far outweighs anything else. 2nd update: I got the replacement electronic part, assembled everything and it has been working fine ever since with one exception. It went offline for some reason so I had to call their helpline. Got great service and it was resolved over the phone. I love this litter robot! The biggest problem I have is the cat is absolutely fascinated about the cleaning process. There are sensors around the outside of the edge and it stops whatever it's doing if it senses that there is a cat nearby or anything else actually. If I move the steps while it's in process it stops. A great preventative. And all you do is push the reset button and it continues on. But if the cat is up there in the middle of things while the robot is cleaning, it stops completely and waits. So the cat repeatedly goes over to sit and watch the action and causes it to stop. Eventually he walks away and I can either remotely or in person cause it to reset and do another manual cleaning just in case it was stopped and didn't get that part. Being able to do it for my phone is fabulous! The recommendation for cleaning the tray of the poop and pee balls is one cat equals one week. I disagree. I'm cleaning it twice a week, meaning that I lift the dirty bag out of the tray and put a clean bag in. What a revelation in cat sandboxes!! Yes I've wiped down the inside once with some lingering residual poop being removed. I'm going to do a more thorough cleaning soon. I've had the replacement up and operating at least two weeks now and I have to say it's the best thing out there! I'm upping the stars to four because of the great customer service resolving the initial problem and subsequent phone service. And I have now figured out the timer on setting it for when to clean. You have a choice between 10 and 30 minutes to begin the cleaning process after it recognizes the cat has been inside the drum. So it's not cleaning every 10-30 minutes. It only cleans when necessary. Update: after initially working once, the whole thing went on the fritz. I contacted their customer service at Litter Robot / Whisker, and in talking in person with someone, got GREAT customer service. He said that the whole electronic part, the bottom assembly, had a failure and I needed a new one. He ordered it immediately and I had it in about 4 or 5 days. I had to promise to return the defective part to them but they pay for it. I received the bottom part, and following instructions, saw how it was to be rebuilt after disassembling the old one. The only problem was the tip over preventer, not the correct name for it, was completely snapped on to the old one. I was afraid I would break it trying to get it off but, a good thing, it didn't break! So I got it reassembled, made sure that I had registered on the app on my phone, and started setting everything up. I haven't quite got it all figured out yet. There's a question in my mind as to whether it will cycle for cleaning every 30 minutes all day or whether it's just 30 minutes after the product has been used by the cat. I'm still figuring that one out. In the meantime, you can put it on basically permanent sleep so it won't clean until you tell it to. My cat had actually used the original one without telling me! I had set it up and put sand in it and then walked away because I wasn't ready to have him use it yet nor even turn it on. Well my back was turned apparently he used it twice! So that was interesting finding out when I turned it on the first time, the old one, and got it to clean once before it went on the fritz. So I know he will use it. They suggest putting treats on the stair steps to encourage him to go up so I did that. He was more interested than the treats and walking up the staircase to get into the robot. So I got everything working, got him looking inside the robot like he didn't know why I was showing him it. Too funny. They suggest letting their regular sandbox get pretty dirty which I have done to discourage their use of the old box and encourage the use of the robot box. So pretty soon he was going into the robot every few hours. And then I would push the button to clean it either in person or on the phone app. And then the cat would go run into watch the thing go in motion. And every time he got up the steps or close to the robot, the sensors turned everything off in mid cleaning. So I finally picked him up, push the button to get it to clean, and sat there holding him and telling him what a good boy he was for not going up the stairs and turning off the robot. This is all just while I'm laughing. Today, I kept track of when he went into the robot, because it weighs him and I know that if he puts a foot or two in it it only registers a couple of pounds, where is he's pushing 10 lb which registers when he goes in there completely. So I know when he goes in there to pee or poop. And I wait a while before I manually push the clean button on my phone. And he has stopped running over to see it turn over. So, it's working! And it's wonderful, and I am so glad I purchased it. I fully expect that with something electronic like this that there may be things that will go wrong in the future but I will tell you, their customer service is really good. I did purchase the insurance on it. But I think there's a full year warranty for anything that goes wrong. They'll replace it completely if necessary. So if you've got the money to spend, take my advice and get this as fast as you can because it is well worth it! I'm hoping that the last time I have to clean a kitty sandbox will be when I get the old one ready to be dumped and cleaned and stored. First of all, this review initially was upon setup only. Have not used it yet. If you are not handy or have trouble with not real clear instructions, you may need help setting it up. It requires no tools. The original Litter Robot4 comes almost ready to go out of the box. It's bigger than you think! There's a few things to connect but everything is pretty much snap on. If you order the package that has the steps, that's a little more complicated. Not difficult once you'ce figured it out, just the instructions are not real clear and the pictures are not the best on their website. I ordered separately the extra Litter Hopper from the manufacturer, which includes installing a new bonnet and the sand receptacle for fresh sand at the back. I think that was what slowed me down so much. I will tell you I'm in my mid-70s and I'm not stupid about putting things together and reading instructions. It just was not simple for me. But I did it! Having said that, I'm waiting to use it for a couple of reasons including obtaining a hard surface tray that they sell separately but not on Amazon, for stability purposes on a carpeted surface, and using the electronics properly. Once it arrives, I'll plug it in and make sure everything's running. I will update this review also. And then once the cat has been introduced, there will be a third edit. They do give good ideas to how to acclimate the cat to the robot. Fingers crossed!

This Litter Robot4 was a game changer! I love it. There is NO smell. The "waste" gets sealed off in the bag in the bottom drawer until it is time to pull out the bag and replace it. No scooping, no stink, no mess, no kicking litter out of the box all over the floor. It is also very easy to wipe the inside of the barrel clean as needed. I have not had to do a thorough washing yet, but watching the video it looks easy. I like being able to see when each of my cats is using the potty and keep track of their weight. I will definitely be purchasing a second one. I am thinking about 5+ so it has the camera, but I'm not sure that is worth the additional almost $200! I could just put a $30 indoor wyze camera on the 4, but I do like the idea of knowing if the potty trip was #1 or #2 for health purposes. As for getting the cat to use a robot after a regular box (my box was in an enclosure, so that wasn't an issue): The girl cat took to it immediately. The boy cat was curious, but didn't use it for over a week. Then, the first time he saw it cycle, he was afraid of it, so I had to start over again with the training Litter Robot company suggests. After two weeks, both cats were using it and stopped using the old litter box, so we removed the old stinky, manual scooping box! And the boy cat is not oly unafraid of it cycling - he watches it like it is the most fascinating thing he has ever seen! As for safety - it definitely knows if a cat is inside of it. As a matter of fact, the sensors are placed so that they even know if the cat is on the step peering inside. If it is cycling, it stops immediately. I've also tested it by putting my own hand in while it is cycling - testing at different points in the cycle - and it stops instantaneously. Then a few minutes after the cat (or your hand) moves away, it will start cycling again. If you are on the fence about getting a robot litter box, jump off and buy the Litter Robot4! You will LOVE it!

I vacillated between giving this product 3 or 4 stars. On one hand, it significantly reduces the labor, mess and odor associated with having multiple cats. On the other hand, it is rather costly and the reliability of the first one we purchased directly from the factory was disappointing. In the simplest possible terms, the Litter Robot consists of a whole lot of plastic, a miniature electric motor-gearbox assembly, and enough electronics to cover a largish postage stamp. There's also a couple of optical sensors. After 18 months, our first Litter Robot stopped working and displayed an error code corresponding to "Motor Over torque". We contacted customer support and were pleasantly surprised to be immediately connected with a technician who skillfully walked us through an elaborate diagnostic process. The verdict was that our motor-gearbox assembly had failed. The technician told us that while our unit was out of warranty, they would ship us a replacement unit at no cost. (At this point, the cynic in me pondered the possibility that there was a design problem with the M-G assembly that was causing lots of premature failure. Hopefully, this has been corrected in the unit we just received from Amazon.) The motor-gearbox assembly arrived 4 days later along with a set of excellent instructions on replacement. It took my wife and I about 45 minutes to do the job using only a screw driver and working very slowly. It was an easy task for us, but might be more daunting for someone who isn't mechanically inclined. On a whim, I disassembled the old (failed) motor-gearbox assembly, and found that the quality of the gearbox was on a par with what you might find in a toddler's toy car. The gearbox case was cast out of pot metal and several of the gear shafts used a blind hole in the case as a a bearing support. I suspect that wear led to binding which caused the motor-over-torque failure to occur. So far, I haven't had the courage to open our new Litter Robot and examine the gear box to see if it's been upgraded. Addendum - I've been reading comments from other users and it appears that a number of buyers have experienced problems and simply given up on the product. Many, if not most of these problems can be solved by using the correct kitty litter. Per the instructions that come with the Litter Robot, you MUST use clumping clay litter - pine, corncob and crystalline litter will NOT work. For problems related to mechanical functionality (e.g. drum rotation), call customer service. The technical support team is well staffed, well trained, and very patient. Their sole reason for existence is to solve the problems you are experiencing. Give them a try before you cart an $800 product to the dump.
