Review: Solid foundation for algebra - Bought for myself (59) as I am interested in maths and studied to 1st year degree level 40 years ago and wanted to keep my brain sharp. It contains lots of principles I was never exposed to, but beware it is written for the american market, and some of their pathways to the solution are not the same as those taught in the UK although the end result is the same. Might get myself the second one once I've absorbed this one fully. Review: Beginning of Algebra - Learning from the beginning.

Title: Fantastic Resource for Mental Acuity and Learning Algebra at Any Age! I purchased Algebra I Workbook For Dummies to keep my mind sharp, and I couldn’t be more pleased! As an older adult, I know how important it is to engage in activities that challenge the brain, and this workbook does just that. The explanations are clear, concise, and easy to follow—even for those who haven’t touched algebra in decades. The step-by-step approach makes solving problems feel rewarding rather than frustrating. I especially appreciate the practice exercises, which reinforce concepts in a way that builds confidence. There’s no pressure, just steady progress at your own pace. One of the best aspects of this book is how it keeps the mind active. Studies show that mental exercises like math help maintain cognitive function, and I can already tell that working through these problems has improved my focus and problem-solving skills. It’s like a workout for the brain! Whether you’re an older learner looking to stay sharp or someone brushing up on algebra for personal or professional reasons, this workbook is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

Mary Jane does not show here work in the answers portion of the workbook. Typically will need to look outside of this book for more detailed descriptions or steps when completing. Author also places problems in sections prior to explaining methods to solve them. Somewhat frustrating but still allows for critical thinking.

I used to be very good at math....algebra, functions, trigonometry...even calculus. However, I never had occasion to use it during my working life so thought I would take it up again in a amateur and occasional sort of way now that I am retired...both because I liked it a great deal and because I thought it might help with mental challenge and sharpness. Given how long its been, I really needed a refresher on some of the basics. I did the first 3 chapters and was able to complete them only by deciphering how the examples worked, by looking concepts up on my phone and by recalling what I could from high school and freshman university. This book assumes you are already very conversant with the details of algebra and so does not go about explaining basics; you are pretty much on your own. That said, if you already know the basics, which this book does not explain, then you won't need it. I don't see what niche it targets. Personally, I would not buy it again.

I was a 6th grade math teacher. I moved up to the high school to teach Algebra 1 at age 57. It had been years since I’d done high school math. I found this workbook very helpful. It has good notes and examples. I bought it because there were practice problems in the book with a key. I worked the entire book over the summer break. I highly recommend this book. I also bought the Algebra 2 and geometry workbooks.

This book is good for review , if you already took Algebra I in the past. It is not good as a first textook, due to the fact it skips some very basic topics you would encounter in any high school Algebra I class. These topics include set operations and Venn diagrams; the major number sets and subsets; basic definitions, axioms and theorems of algebra that are used as the foundation to build the system of algebra. Certainly worth the low cost.
