The Martini-Henry Rifle (Weapon)
L**R
Once over lightly, please
This is a nice, fairly concise history of the Martini-Henry BPCR historical arm. Doesn't cover everything in absolute detail, but not a light read for lack of content, either: just an accessible, interesting and enjoyable history of this classic rifle. Almost all the information in this book can be found on the internet, but it won't all be conveniently located in one place, nor will all of it be as well-written & cohesive. What can I say? I rec'd. the book & read it in an evening. I'm a fairly quick reader, but it says something about the book that I found it pleasant enough reading that I wasn't tempted to set it down & pursue something else to break up the monotony. It's not a big or particularly thick book, but unlike a different title in this format/series that I recently purchased, detailed enough in content that I feel it is worth the cover price.Definitely a nice companion piece to read while watching "Zulu" on tv the next time it gets rerun! ;)

Quick read and overview
Like most Ospry books, this is a quick read and overview of the Martini-Henry rifle. A lot of good information concerning the history, design and usage of the Martini-Henry.

The Martini-Henry Rifle (Weapon)
A great source book for the Martini-Henry Rifle. The images and development descriptions of the rifle are very good. The art (from Peter Dennis) is really good and detailed. The book arrived in a timely manner and in perfect condition.

Victorian history
With many M-H rifles being imported from Nepal this book is timely as to the rifle and its place in Victorian England's history.

Amazing
This was a fantastic read about a great rifle with a solid design etc section, But the best part is the use section which is choc full of great stories of the martini in action. Take note osprey!!, this is how this series should be done!!!! Simply fascinating.

outstanding book on the Martini Henry rifle
This book contains a lot of valuable information for the Martini Henry owner and historian. I found it very valuable the only fault was that it did not discuss the .402 venture and the resulting Mark IV type. Even with this mild point I gave it all stars rating.

A great source or starting point for study for specialist study
I originally wrote "see my review of the book on the SA80". However Amazon do not regard that as acceptable review and I do not intend to copy the review across. I purchased this book (which is in the same series) for precisely the same reasons as the other on the SA80. The book is designed for the same purpose and fulfils its brief very well. As before I do not believe these are designed by Osprey for the specialist historian. As with other (I have now read 5 of them) they provide a good general briefing or, for someone starting off in this branch of military history, a good starting point.

Very interesting read
I find this book very interesting from the point of view of that it covers history and development of the weapon, effects, accuracy/ballistics, use in warfare, units involved, actions and so on.In fact if you are interested in late 19th century warfare from British troops point if view, you can't go far wrong with this book.Whilst some parts are technical, not all the book is and this is its best point in my opinion.A good solid book packed with information and definitely recommended.

Good for research.
After purchasing an original Martini Henry I was interested in understanding the markings on the rifle and the history. This book was perfect.
