I recently purchased the OWC Express 1M2 NVMe Thunderbolt External Drive, and I am beyond impressed! This drive is a game-changer for anyone who needs fast, reliable external storage. The speed is mind-blowing — I'm consistently getting read and write speeds that far surpass anything I’ve experienced with other external drives. Not sure you can do better than this enclosure at this price. It’s fanless, so it’s entirely silent during operation and you don’t have to worry about the fan failing, which is huge double bonus. This should literally last as long as the components inside it do, with no other point of failure. Built with maximum efficiency so it stays at safe temps even during prolonged use. It’s rock solid, build like a brick, feels premium and high quality and has never gotten too hot to touch, only very warm when in use. It is a heat sink so it gets warm even when idle but that’s expected. It fell off my shelf (about 8 inch drop onto hardwood floor) with ssd installed and no affect on performance, not even a scuff! Every other enclosure I researched either had a fan (noise, point of failure) or had sketchy prolonged temps. This is the only one I found that does everything you could want an enclosure to do. It’s rare to find a product that has no discernible con or trade off, but this might just be it! Paired with a 990 Pro on MBP for gaming and works like a charm. It’s half the speed of the 990 Pro so will look at getting a faster enclosure in the future to unlock max SSD speeds. Until then this does everything it needs to.

I was going to buy an M4 Mac Mini dock but I have all the plugs I need so went for just an SSD enclosure. Fitted with a Samsung 990 Pro that is faster than the OWC supports but the SSD was on offer so went for it as it was less costly than a slower alternative. The enclosure is a doddle to set up and use and I now have all my key programmes - MS Office and Photoshop, Acrobat and Lightroom plus Chrome and Firefox running from it. Fast? Seems to be. Stable? Yes. Fast file transfers? Extremely quick. Does it run hot? Gets warm under load, hence sitting on heavy alloy billet which really helps reduce the running temperatures. Not a problem without but in hot weather is could be. Older and slower SSDs run cool. Fast ones are clearly using a lot more power and do run warm. If the Mac is left to sleep the external drive is warm to the touch in the morning. This is normal I am told. Would I run this with a 'laptop'? If the laptop is plugged into the mains, yes. But I think these powerful SSDs and enclosures eat power so be aware if you want to use battery power for an extended period. Would a cheaper alternative be as good? No idea. I buy something that has a good warranty from a trusted supplier. Do I trust my data to an SSD? No. I have multiple back-ups and always save pictures from my SD card to at least three external drives. Two Samsung SSDs have died on me but they were lower capacity and worked really hard. Can I plug in the drive and use it with another computer? If it is a Mac with an M1 to M4 chip and fitted with USB 3/4 or Thunderbolt yes. Works seamlessly. Would I recommend? If you rely on an external drive, yes. Would I fit a slower SSD? Yes, a Gen 3 will be just as fast as the Gen 4 SSD I bought. Do I need my 'home made' heat sink? No but have used this system for a long time and it works.

Just adding my two cents' worth to the other 5-star reviews. This enclosure is gorgeous to look at, sufficiently heavy to be stable on your desk, and just blows away the competition. I compared it with a slightly cheaper enclosure (also a well-known brand) and this enclosure gives me higher speeds from my 2TB WD Black NVMe SSD. I am getting consistent speeds of 3000+ which is much faster than my Mac Mini M4's internal drive. The enclosure barely gets warm in normal use. It was delivered in just 2 days despite the advertised delivery time being longer, so kudos to the supplier. If you want the coolest, best-looking, fastest enclosure around, spend the extra few quid and get this.

A little disappointed. I bought this for my Samsung EVO Plus 2TB NVMe drive. As you can see from the before and after photos, the speed did increase from 1250MBps Write / 1500 MBps Read to 1500MBps Write / 3000 MBps Read, but I was hoping to get around 3000 MBps for both read and write. I will say though that I got the same results from a UGREEN enclosure, so possibly it is down the the Samsung drive. I did try to update the firmware on the Samsung drive from 2B2QEXE7 to 4B2QEXM7 (using Sumsung Magician software), but was unable to as it can only be done on PC and I am on a Mac. Initially, I had concerns about the thermal pad and its contact to the SSD. It appears to only make contact at the ends and not the middle. I contacted OWC about this and they said that this is fine as all the heat is generated from the controller and NAND Chips which are at either end of the SSD. Be careful when installing the SSD though as I made the mistake of not quite aligning it properly and that meant that the SSD sat a little bit higher than it should be as you can see in the photos. In conclusion, although I didn’t get the speeds that I was hoping for, the actual product itself is of a high-quality.

This OWC Express 1M2 is a fantastic enclosure. It's incredibly small and portable, making it easy to toss into a backpack pocket. Paired with the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSD, the performance is flawless. I've been editing 4K video in Final Cut Pro on my M1 Max Mac Studio in real-time, and I've experienced zero slowdowns—a huge step up from my previous drives. While it does get noticeably warm under heavy load, it maintains excellent functionality and speed. It also feels very durable, giving me peace of mind when carrying it between home and the office. Highly recommend this combination for demanding creative work!

Muazzam bir ürün, aldığım en iyi thunderbolt 4 kutusu diyebilirim. M1 max çipli mac studio'da, 4 tb samsung 990 pro ile kullanıyorum. Vaadettigi hızları sonuna kadar sağladı. Fiyatı biraz pahalı ama hazır bir ssd alsanız hem daha az performans alırsınız hem de daha fazla ücret ödersiniz, hem de bunda olduğu gibi içindeki m2 değiştirebilir olmaz. Tek eksi yanı boyutu biraz büyük ama zaten genellikle sabit durduğu için benim açımdan büyük bir sorun değil. Şiddetle tavsiye ediyorum!

Il punto di forza non è il prezzo, ma al giorno d'oggi trovare dei prodotti che aderiscono al 100% alle prestazioni e ai dettagli dichiarati dal produttore, è diventato qualcosa di raro che deve essere premiato, con una buona recensione e 5 stelle, in particolare su Amazon e altri marketplace analoghi! Prima dell'acquisto ho controllato le specifiche sul sito di OWC, non c'è un dettaglio che non sia aderente alla descrizione (o migliore), a partire dalle prestazioni specificate espressamente per vari modelli di computer di riferimento. In pratica, l'intero case è un dissipatore in alluminio che mantiene i drive a temperature ottimali senza alcun rumore, grazie all'assenza di ventole attive; il pad termico in silicone è già installato, è sufficiente inserire il drive NVMe e avvitare le 3 viti per completare l'installazione; particolare aggiuntivo che mostra attenzione ai dettagli: OWC fornisce alcuni "piedini" gommati da attaccare sotto al case per evitare sfregamenti e rumori fastidiosi, isolando ulteriormente il case dalla superficie su cui è posizionato. Come mostrato nello screenshot, ho raggiunto circa i 3.5 GB/s sia in scrittura che in lettura, valori addirittura maggiori di quelli dichiarati dal produttore (probabilmente dovuti al drive, più performante di quello utilizzato nei test ufficiali). Il led di stato può essere configurato in modalità "normale", "dim" (luce soffusa) o "spento", attraverso uno switch hardware interno (levetta da spostare), ulteriore dettaglio che in applicazioni specifiche può risultare interessante. Considerando che ho potuto acquistare il case con 4 anni di "garanzia estesa" di Amazon, oltre ai 2 anni di garanzia offerti dal produttore, ho finalmente la sensazione di aver speso soldi per un prodotto di alta qualità.

Que produto excelente. Já vem pronto, com fita térmica. É só colocar o ssd e pronto. Ótima qualidade. Recomendo demais.
