I had an expectation of this book based on the first book, but at some point I released that completely. This book is perfect for the second book because you truly see Sunny evolve not just in the Leopard world but with her family. She finds balance and she discovers a new layer of herself. Like her spirit face at times Sunny definitely got on my nerves with the self doubt, but I managed to give her grace. This ended up being a wonderful second installment that I just couldn’t put down. Number 3 is on the way Review: Outstanding - Nnedi O. has outdone herself once again with the enthralling sequel to The Akata Witch. Akata Warrior is a masterful medley of humor, suspense, mystery, magic & much more! Nnedi’s crafting of words manages to captivate all of the reader’s 5 senses & pulls you into Sunny & her friends’ magical journey on the continued quest to save humanity. ALL of the characters (major, minor & magical) come alive, especially our beloved Sunny, with the impeccable depths of character Nndedi creates. However, I’m slightly disappointed as the ending leaves an inkling of yet another possible installment that I’ll have to be forced to wait patiently on again. What do the Oha have in store as they go on another amazing journey to retrieve Udide’s precious possessions? Will Anansi be woven the next tale? Until then, I think I can read this book one more time! Akata Warrior was outstanding.

Further dangers and experiences for Sunni
This is the second book in the series. The book opens a year after the events in the first book. Sunni is continuing to work on her magical abilities and learning more about the Nsibidi language which can take you to a full experience of what is written down. Things get messy when her brother returns from college as a fugitive from a nasty gang and Sunni decides to get involved to set things right. This leads her to a dangerous punishment in the basement of the magical library and sets off a new quest for the group and new challenges, particularly with Sunni and her spirit face. They must work together and Sunni needs both her ordinary and magical families to have a chance of success.

Didn’t know what to expect but glad I read it
Keeps drawing you into the storyline. Introduces you to a different culture and country. Also delves into how stereotypes and labels affect our lives.

Enter the Akata World ... if you dare!
One indicator that a book is good, well written and has a compelling story is that you become absorbed in its “world.” Such is the case with the Akata Witch series. Advertised to me as the “African Harry Potter” (whose books I love by the way) I found this series to be a fantasy that stands on its own, sans the derivative reference. I kept thinking about the levels of subtext - colorism, sexism, pan-Africanism, sibling rivalry, self discovery, honor, covenant making and friendship and on and on. I found myself wanting to develop a literature course or even a social psychology course around it! Brava! This book is a winner!

just as good as the first
A worthy sequel to "Akata Witch". Longer book, just as good as the first. A hint that there will be another. These books are fantasies about young people with magic. They are coming of age stories, but written for adults or smart older children. I grew up in white bread America, and it's a treat to read universal human stories in a completely unfamiliar culture. People are the same, even when superficially different... And those of us who were different when growing up will identify with these young people.

Amazing Teen Fantasy
Literally one of the best books in teen fiction. I can't wait until the third book comes out. I love these books as much as Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. I also love the fact that the characters are in the African diaspora.

A wonderful sequel!
Better writing, great character development, and continuation of a fascinating story all make Warrior a strong sequel to Witch! Not much more to add because the rest is very like the last book. Imaginative, a little hard to follow - but less frequently this time! - and the last big action sequence was a little less anticlimactic (so a little better, too). I look forward to the next in the series!
