BOSS Dr-01S Rhythm Partner for Acoustic Musicians

Really useful bit of kit. Plug into a P.A. and it sounds great! The built in speaker is fine for home practicing. I just plugged in an old keyboard foot switch to control stop/start which saved a few pounds on buying a Boss one. The rhythm is set throughout the song so not suitable for songs with varied time signatures or breaks, but pick your songs carefully and the variation in instrument sounds make this one of the easiest and best drum machines around for live performance.

The unit is remarkable, the variations available with each instrument give the rhythm builder a massive pallet to build from. Even adjusting the volumes of all the instruments used in the build. Once the individual rhythm is built, you save it to your favourites, with a favourites library of 50 entries. I recommend the double footswitch as a must have to use this unit, especially for live performances, and the drive through my PA gives a further variation of sound enhancement through the equaliser, giving a full drummer backing I've not come across before. The designer's of this unit deserves a lot of credit for the simplicity of the interface and range of high quality mixing variations. I removed my head covering to them. Well done BOSS.

I found this unit very easy to use, there is a good amount of variations for each instrument. It is ok if you are playing acoustic guitar alone, but for more than one person or in a live situation you will need to put it through an amp or PA as the built in volume is not loud enough in these situations. I also bought the foot pedal which is useful for adding or taking away sounds on the fly. I bought this to replace my very old Alesis SR16 drum machine, the Boss is not quite as flexible as the SR16 But it is still very usable. One thing I would have liked are some “fills” that could be operated by the foot switch, this would make it a lot more flexible in both live and recording situations.

I love this. Good volume to play guitar with. Good selection of settings which offer metronome, drums etc. it’s fun to select which percussion and the tempo. Easy to use.

This is an incredible backing machine with 50 favourite presets. It is mostly for latin american backing but does have drums as well. Works amazingly well keeping you in time (as a guitarist) and also has a metronome. I run this through a Roland amp (and about to buy another to run in stereo) and a Bose external speaker for practice and the sound is incredible, deep and luscious and backs your playing and singing. Have also noticed that even just setting the congas, bongos, cajon, tamourines etc can let you free to write your own tunes and lyrics - in other words great for song writing.

Disappointing with the overall sound. Agree with other reviewer, you could a lot better with a drum machine and monitor. This is okay for strumming in your bedroom, that's about all.

Will I use the DR O1s at a gig? NO. Is it super durable? NO. Is it a rock machine? NO. It's actually a remarkably versatile practise and intimate session device. It sounds pretty reasonable on it's own speaker, being loud enough for an acoustic session. Plugged into a PA it sounds quite good, and I would use it out in the wilds at a pinch. The thing that really impresses me is the ease of use. It's all so clear and simple. This means that practising against multiple beats/sounds is easy to do, without and faffing about. I have to say that in two weeks, it's loosened up my strumming no end and added new expresion to my rhythms. It's one of my "blimey! I'm glad I bought that" purchases.

A fantastic bit of kit. Very easy to use with intuitive controls allowing you to create patterns for specific songs. Adding a boss fs-6 foot switch makes it even better. Quite expensive but is very well made and sounds great.

Der Rhythm Partner ist klein, gut zu bedienen und hat einen schönen Klang. Ich benutze ihn zum Üben für mich allein und beim Spielen unseres Ensembles zB in kleinen Kirchen, wenn nicht viel Platz ist. Ich habe lange überlegt und viele Bewertungen gelesen, bevor ich ihn gekauft habe, aber ich habe es nicht bereut und bin sehr zufrieden!

As a latecomer to learning to play an instrument, I have found this to be excellent. It has a loud enough speaker for accompaniment to my playing. It has helped enormously with my timing. It runs on both batteries and mains. Wish it came with a booklet of the sounds, but at least you can print one off the Web.
