Excellent. Working well in my security DVR, get the right version!
Working very well in my custom designed CCTV hybrid DVR. Review of Seagate Skyhawk 4TB ST4000VX016. Yes its a bit noisy seeking, but mine is in a cabinet in the garage so I don't mind at all, it might be a shade annoying in a quiet environment though. Performance is excellent, it holds up a constant fairly high record rate with easy, all the streams are smooth. Whilst also giving me really quick seeking and replay at the same time, the system just feels smoother and snappier. Beware, there is another version around that is a tiny bit cheaper, the ST4000VXZ16 - note the 'Z' in the code, it has only a quarter of the cache of this version and other changes. For a couple of quid more, this one (without the 'Z') is the one you want. To early to tell on life expectancy, these things do have a really hard life in this application so you have to be a bit realistic.

Replacement HDD
Bought this to replace a faulty drive in a HIK vision DVR. Very easy to do all plug and play was cheaper to buy this than the 1GB that was standard. Been in for a couple of months no issues so far.

Saved a fortune
Absolutely 5 star. At the moment the first star is having a rest. Came much faster than anticipated. The replacement recorder for my CCTV was £850. My brilliant son matched the hard drive and swapped it for under £60. Only down side is you need a brilliant son…..

Renewed product.
Used in Reolink NVR: I like Seagate Skyhawk and this 8TB HDD was available at a reasonable price. I couldn't find any particular reason and the price of HDDs has been so variable that I wasn't that surprised. When buying HDDs the capacity doesn't aways reflect on the relative value so I use the cost per Terrabyte (Price divided by TB) and usually for a surveillance HDD it is about £20.60/TB and this was £18.40/TB. So I bought it. It came in a sealed static-protective bag. It was only then I saw "Factory Recertified" on the label. I am not unduly fussed and if it is official then fine. (I have used generic (not Seagate) renewed HDDs previously and a couple failed so I stick to new discs). No worries, I will try it out. The thing about CCTV disc fails whether used or new, and it happens very very rarely, is you cannot get a refund without falling foul of the privacy rules if you return a load of images of people to big organisation outside your Data Controller remit. I am docking one point because it took me a good five minutes trying to find the information that it was renewed. Amazon always put 'renewed' in the title so that anyone, even without specialist vocabulary. I feel duped.

Works but with a twist
HDD came today. So far it works, it's a legit HDD aswell. The only thing wrong with it is 1. It's not in offical packaging it's just in a plastic static resistant bag. 2. There's a big sticker on the front stating "Warranty only valid in China" I contacted Seagate to ask about this. They confirmed the HDD is genuine from the serial number, but then informed me that as my region is the UK and this HDD is for the China region, if the HDD was to fail I would need to get a replacement from the seller as they wouldn't help due to the region difference. This may or may not be an issue, if the seller is genuine and replaces it. If the seller refuses or ignores you like a lot of sellers do, then you've bought a brand new HDD with no warranty.
