Well made, good value package of fan and thermometer
We've been using this Valiant Premium IV stove fan and thermometer for a few months now and are very pleased with them. Some reviewers don't seem to understand how a stove fan is supposed to work and expect it to blast out hot air like a fan-heater, being disappointed when it does not. The purpose of a stove fan is to reduce the effect of stratification, whereby aif at different temperatures settles in bands from floor to ceiling, with the hot air from the stove rising and sitting up by the ceiling, which isn't where you want it. A stove fan helps to gently break up the stratification in the room, and also helps to gently circulate the warmer air around the stove into the body of the room. It's a gentle process of moving air around, and this fan does the job very well. It's good if you have a limited amount of headroom on top of your stove, as we have, as it's a little shorter in height than many other models. It does start turning at very low temperatures (lower than the 45° stated), though the very first time we had to give the blades a wee nudge to start them off. It's been fine since. The fan turns so fast when the stove gets up to temperature that you can't see the blades, they're just a blur. The only downside of this is that the blade edges pick up any dust that's around, so you will have to give them a wipe now and again. That's true with all stove fans. We have a few friends who have used various models of stove fans for many years, and this seems as robust as any of them. Clean it gently and otherwise leave it alone to do its job and it should give many years of service. The thermometer is clear and easy to read and sticks magnetically onto the collar of the stove flue outlet, which is the best place to put it, and it's more attractive looking than some others. A thermometer is really essential kit for ensuring you are running your stove at an efficient temperature, and this one works very well. This is a good package, and the fan has good features built in such as overheat protection and a handle on top (which stays fairly cool. I have to lift the fan off at bedtime as it carries on running until the stove cools down and it was making the dog uncomfortable!) If you want a stove fan and thermometer, and understand the point of them, then this package is very good.

Seems to be very efficient, very compact
Had been researching stove fans for a while, but didn't jump at buying until I could find one that would fit our stove. This is very compact, and possibly one of the smallest (according to Valiant) on the market right now. Out of the box, there is nothing to set up, just pop it on the stove, and within a few minutes, it will start to spin. If you have not yet got one, I would suggest getting a stove thermometer such as the Blue Spot stove Pipe Thermometer (less than £10) and its perfect for the job. The fan itself is not totally quiet, you will hear a whirring noise, especially as it speeds up, but its not annoying. There is a bi-metal device on the bottom to prevent it from overheating, should the surface temperature get too hot. It works by literally lifting the fan up off the hot surface, but I would remove it if the safety device cuts in. Does it work? I think it does. At first, we thought its not pushing out much heat, but it works on movement of air - convection, rather than a force blow like a fan heater. The stove might appear cooler, but the room is definitely warmer, I would say by up to 30% more. For us, that is a huge difference. The optimum effect is reached around 200 - 250 degrees C, but it works at much lower temps. The unit is fairly robust, the fan is well made, if anything the unit could be a little on the light side, but its so compact, this will fit on any stove. Its also something of a talking point, as its a mystery to some how it works.... with no batteries!!!. 2 year warranty, which is good, and I think, we'll be putting less wood on the stove, and that's what really matters.

Help with effectiveness of woodburning stove
Great fan to help air flow and distribute heat from wood burning stove into room. The thermometer is useful to gauge temperature of woodturner. Both have helped with the effectiveness of the woodburning stove.

Every wood burner should have one!
Love this fan, sends the heat from my wood burner to my face for free. I love the idea of two metals creating a voltage due to heat. The fan is near silent, it looks interesting and is also practical.

Good product but could be quieter
As one or more people have commented on, this fan is slightly noisier than had expected or hoped; which is a shame as it is built well and really helps move the air around. The noise is a medium tone vibrating noise. Enough to always hear in a room with TV on as well. Shame.

Not sure if it actually helps circulate a ton of heat but it works fine and the cats like it

It looks nice but doesn’t seem to blow any air. Even with your hand in front of the fan you cannot feel air blow. Also the additional chimney thermostat doesn’t work - even when the stove has been burning wood for hours the gauge Only shows 100 degrees. Gimmick.
