Simply the Quest: book 2 in the bestselling WHO LET THE GODS OUT series

The second book in the Who Let the Gods Out series and just as funny and clever as the first. Great characters, lots of adventure, and plenty of humour along the way. My 9-year-old couldn’t put it down — a fantastic follow-up that keeps the story moving beautifully.

I read the book when it first came out. I adored it so much I searched for the audio books. This series just gets better and better with a laugh on practically every page, except the serious side of the story which is developing and pulling you in. The school scenes are so funny and the next door neighbour such a great baddie. The ending is a cliff hanger. Won’t say anymore or I’ll spoil the plot. I would recommend book 1 is read/ listened to first because the story is continuous but also very very funny and provides the basis of the story.

Thanatos and the daemons are determined to destroy the world and only Elliot Hooper is our only hope of not letting this happen. But how? Is Elliot capable of handling this? Will he be a legendary hero. If you like funny books read this, As soon as you pick it up you won't regret it.

Completely love this hilarious series. I borrowed the first one from a friend and ended up buying the remaining 3 instantly and read them all within a weekend. Ideal for Year 5 class doing the Greeks - a great balance of humour and actual history of Greek mythology.

Spent my summer off reading various novels but WLTGO and STQ were the only ones I couldn't put down. This is a fabulous book that's wonderfully written. Characters you adore and care about. Witty and funny, begging to be read to children. Which is exactly what I will do with my Year 5's in September.

My 11 year old son read the first book at school and since then he's been so impressed with it, we've bought the whole collection. Perfect mix of hilarity, cliffhangers and sadness. Would definitely recommend.

A great series of books, integrating Greek mythology with a variety of thought provoking challenges and subjects while adding humor too.

Simply amazinggggg!!!!!!

Elliot Hooper lebt noch immer zusammen mit seiner Mutter, dem Sternzeichen Virgo und den olympischen Göttern, die versuchen ihn vor dem Todesdämon Thanatos zu beschützen. Leider wurde ihnen das Verlassen der Farm und das Verwenden ihrer göttlichen Kräfte untersagt. Der geistige Gesundheitszustand von Elliots Mutter Josie hat sich in den letzten Wochen immer mehr verschlechtert. Sie hat kaum noch gute Tage, an denen sie sich an wichtige Dinge erinnern kann. Als dann auch noch ein Brief von Elliots Vater Dave eintrifft, in der dieser ankündigt, dass er nach zehn Jahren nun endlich aus dem Gefängnis entlassen wird, schockiert das Josie so sehr, dass sich ihre Paranoia noch verstärkt. Auch Elliot erlebt einen Schock als er den Brief findet, denn bisher wusste er nicht, was aus seinem Vater geworden ist. In der Stadtbibliothek findet er heraus, dass sein Vater an einem Raubüberfall auf den Juwelier des Ortes beteiligt war. Virgo leidet unterdessen an den Tücken des Alltags. Sie ist es nicht gewohnt, sterblich zu sein und wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher, als wieder in ein Sternzeichen zurückverwandelt zu werden. Sie setzt ihre ganze Hoffnung auf eine Gerichtsverhandlung vor dem Rat. Zeus hat ihr sogar seine Anwältin zur Seite gestellt. Doch diese stellt sich leider als absolute Niete heraus und Virgo verliert den Fall. Dank Elliots Aussage erhält sie zumindest eine Chance, um ihre Unsterblichkeit zurückzuerhalten. Dazu muss sie zu einer echten Heldin werden. Doch wie wird man das auf die Schnelle? Virgo sucht Rat bei Herkules, Jason und Theseus, doch die haben sich inzwischen zur Ruhe gesetzt und die Berufe gewechselt. Thanatos hat inzwischen unerwartete Hilfe von seiner Mutter Nyx erhalten. Gemeinsam hecken sie einen neuen Plan aus, wie sie Elliot die Chaossteine entreißen können, damit Thanatos die Welt erobern kann. Simply the Quest, bzw. auf deutsch Götter allein zu Haus, ist erneut ein großer Spaß, was auch davon ablenkt, dass es eine Weile dauert, bis das zweite Abenteuer von Elliot und Virgo so richtig losgeht. Sehr gefreut habe ich mich über einen erneuten Auftritt der Queen und über einige Anspielungen, die sich wohl eher an Leser seines älteren Jahrgangs richten.
