A shoe one can grow into
Very comfortable form and fit with only initial stiffness that faded fast. The midsole technology is superb beyond compare. Extremely capable all terrain rubber outsole and great stability shank with surprisingly nice return make navigating uneven ground with ease. No joke about temperature stability, these resist heat transfer far better than most work boots. These do offer a-lot of support near the ankle however doesn’t have to be, just be aware of that for smaller ankle types in larger group sizes., The size fit made for a range a feet in that group and I tell all that they will form to your feet,. Well these shoes form to your feet within the first ten miles or so. Overall an excellent shoe that is fully capable and yes even running and not falling apart before I can stop. Update on the ride: After a pre break in period I wore them on a 10 hour work day for the last two days and am simply amazed how these shoes dissipate heat while walking about. Aka better than any touted brand that says cooling tech.. NO., these shoes dissipate heat in such away that it’s not just the insoles working.. the whole shoe is working. All of it. Makes me wonder about the phorene, probably just me though. I smell water… proof walking ECCO

5 stars but WATCH THE SIZING
First, for those who care, the shoe looks really nice. The shoe doesn't rub the ankles like some others who have the sides cut too high. The construction is absolutely top-notch. The design is excellent (but for those who tend to walk on the outside of their feet, the wide sole at the heel is an adjustment). The lacing system is superb, easy to adjust, designed to be sturdy. The tongue fits nicely and doesn't bunch up. I didn't feel any seams or anything else to make the shoe problematic. The heel slips a bit, but that might be because of my sizing issue (and the heel cup is totally smooth). Round laces, not flat. Sole appears to be grippy but that wasn't tested on ice or slippery rocks. Feels a bit heavier than I expected but it's acceptable given the construction. This is a solid piece of footwear. Now the problem: I'm a 7.5. I ordered the 7-7.5. It is a full 2 inches longer than the Merrells I have on right now! The shoe is labeled inside as a 7-7.5 so there's no mistake. I have to send them back for this reason

Solid, Comfortable, and Not Ugly
I went on a blind date once. She later told me when asked about the date, she confessed we had a good time, I was funny and nice. When asked about my appearance, she said, "he's not ugly." Which is probably fair. I'd say the same about these shoes - not high fashion, not ugly. In terms of comfort, they are not as comfortable as a top end trainer (Hoka, Brooks, even New Balance), but are much closer to that in feel than something like a Sketcher. They feel solid, grip is good. I used them for walking around European cities in the winter, and for that, they were great. Good support. No foot fatigue. Good grip in wet and dry conditions. Generally kept the winter out, my feet dry, and with the right socks, warm. And they aren't ugly.

Sturdy and dry
It was raining when these were delivered so I tried them out right away and liked them more than I thought I would. They are marvelously waterproof and comfortable. They are almost an inch longer than other Eccos of the same size which confused me until I realized the extra length is not in the toe but in that odd tail fin lookin' piece at the heel. It is true, as another customer pointed out, that I stepped on my own heels a few times, so I do have some concern that if I do that on a trail I might trip myself and fall over a cliff and die in fear and agony. In the meantime, that structure seems to add some stability. The star of the show may be the treads, which have plenty of grippy bits but come clean easily after the walk. I don't think I've ever seen Michelin shoe treads before but I like them so far.

Comfort and quality
When the ECCO Men's Ultra Terrain Waterproof Low Hiking Shoe arrived i was very happy to see that the shoe size was correct. The build quality of this shoe is very well made. i like the thick shoelaces are easy to tie and they don't work lose. I have been walking in rural areas and on the foot path. I have found these shoes very comfortable and resistant to getting wet. The soles have good grip. I am very happy with my purchase looking forward to getting a few years wear out of them.

Wears well, comfortable and nice looking
Bought these for an extended European trip this fall and wore them a few weeks beforehand to break them in. Over almost a month in Europe walking everywhere on all kinds of terrain, these shoes performed exceedling well. Did not do extended hikes in wilderness but did do 6+ mile walks daily on hilly trails as well as rough-paved roads and old paving stones which comprise so much of European town landscapes. I estimate 200+ walking miles so far with no problems, although you can see some wear on the tread at the edges on the edge of the soles. Fortunately it didn’t rain much so the shoes were not water-tested thoroughly, although they perform well in some light showers and puddles. Overall very comfortable. When I returned home, I wiped off the fabric/rubber on the outside of the shoes with a cloth soaked in laundry soap. That elimated the smudges and scuff and they still look great. Overall these work as a casual shoe to be worn for daily activities or traveling but are also fine for the occasional more formal night out at nice restaurants, theaters, etc.

Awkward sole design
These shoes have a rather strangely wide sole at the rear of the foot. The sole edges stick out to the side much farther than normal. I suppose that this is to provide stability. But when I tried them on, I found that the protuberant soles catch on each other as you walk. This felt distinctly awkward and potentially unsafe.
