An excellent to light pipe audio device
I hooked this up to my Nvidia Shield TV as my TV only has an optical audio output and this thing correctly connected to my soundbar for an excellent audio experience.

LOUD USB AUDIO WHEN STARTUP
Does it work? yes. Does it scream, "USB AUDIO" when powered on? YES! WHY DOES IT NEED TO DO THIS! My calm mornings are now fraught with screams of "USB AUDIO". Do NOT recommend. Find another product that isn't rude.

It's alright in a pinch.
You are probably better off getting an actual sound card or motherboard that supports toslink, if your intention is to use this with a PC. The sound quality is degraded and somewhat defeats the purpose of this type of connection.

Not for SPDIF
The 3.5 works great but that is not why I got this. SPDIF is slow and makes the audio sound like a ransom call processor. Going to send it back.

Connected Easily, Durable Metal Construction Unique and Useful Functionality
I did not know a USB to Optical/3.5mm Audio Adapter even existed before seeing this item. So, I decided to give it a try. The device itself is a small metal enclosure with an Optical Connector Port as well as a standard 3.5mm stereo jack. It has a nice long good quality USB cord, and terminates with a standard USB Type-A. It also includes a Type A to C adapter. I tested this first with my Android phone, as I was most skeptical it would work properly with mobile devices. But I was surprised that it connected instantly. I was able to connect a set of standard headphones and was also able to immediately connect to the Optical cable on one of my home amplifiers/speakers. This allows me to use my phone as an audio source. So, I do not need to connect via Bluetooth, etc. Though audio was immediately routed correctly, the phone did see it as a external USB device which could require access to the local file systems and prompted you to authorize this. I just dismissed this notification. I also tested it with a Windows 10 computer with equal success. I am aware that there are wide variations as to versions of Android as well as Windows, and other devices/systems. I would expect connectivity/control issues with some. But as tested it worked perfectly. I like this little device. It is very easy to use and is definitely a nice device to add to my adapter set. I have a number of devices which include an Optical input/output. This allows me to connect to a wide range of devices. It's also very inexpensive. I can definitely recommend you give it a try.

I bought this to use on my ps5 and connect the Astro MixAmp via spdif and use the 3d sound feature of the console. The adapter is well detected but the volume is so low with my headphone (Dt990 pro 8ohm) that it's useless. If you plan on using this with medium-high impedance headphones, you'll need an amp for sure.

I have used 2 of these so far with a Raspberry Pi 2 Zero 2W and MoOde player Easy peasy to connect to an optical input AV receiver

The ad says it supports multiple bitrates but it does not. The only thing it supports is 16bit 420khz which is a lot lower than advertised.
