Very happy with this scan tool. I first became aware of xtools due to a great review from YouTuber that I like. I’ve owned several scan tools over the years (former mechanic now wrenching part time) and this is the best I’ve used. This replaced my Autel mx 900. It’s an upgrade in every way. It’s super fast, the bidirectional features are fantastic. Excellent interface. I had a bit of trouble initially getting it to register and download updates but the customer service was great and got me set up in no time. I haven’t tried the ecu coding yet but very happy and the price is right. Even price independent I think it’s one of the best you can get, best I’ve used anyway.

I bought this November 2023 and it paid for it self the first year. Mostly used only my daughters 2017 Subaru legacy. I programmed two new keys and replaced her rear brakes, both of which requires use of the tool. Since then I've diagnosed an issue with a coil pack and a few other random check engine issues, as well as used this when changing her trans fluid and brake fluid. I also used it on my 2010 Chevy avalanche to turn off the DOD/afm lifter feature. It's always got updates for various vehicles ready to download. It's basically an android tablet underneath the xtool software, has internet browser real search trouble codes or watch a how to. Easy to use. Very thick and durable seeming, though I haven't dropped mine yet. Get it, it will save you money in the long run. Update: 2/24/2026 Still working, still coming in handy, still getting updates. I brought the tool with me on a family trip from the PNW to Texas, driving my Avalanche. I kept having an error pop up regarding stabilitrak and ABS shutting off. The scanner told me what to look for, and I had the needed wire ready shipped to destination and waiting by the time I arrived. There might be things a more expensive one can do that this one can't, but for the price, and as a DIY guy, its been great.

I found the Xtool D7S provides a lot of information and bi-directional capabilities. It has so far operated flawlessly, responds well, it feels well built, and i like the size of the unit. However, I did not find the scan tool to be very user friendly, as I find myself searching for some information through a maze of screens and under possible categories to discover whether data is supported or not, or trying to remember where to find it. Perhaps there's a large learning curve. For example, the scan tool will save my Acura RDX but won't save my Mazdaspeed3, which you have to re-enter the information again each time. I understand this is a universal scan tool and found out it does not support specific data for certain makes of vehicles, which can be a bit disappointing. Xtool has been responsive with my questions though, along with providing helpful answers which I appreciate. I am not sure if this level of customer service would be provided by other scan tool manufacturers. Xtool also has been providing endless updates, which is a proactive, good sign.

Excellent scan tool that will do anything $2000 scan tools will do. Only thing I recommend would be buying an extension for the OBD cable only because it’s not a very long cable and if you’re working under the hood, the cable that comes with it is not long enough Other than that definitely worth it all day
