Brilliant, heavy cleaver
This is great, very heavy and ideal for chopping bone. I use it for preparing raw food for my cats and it makes it very easy. It can chop through frozen chicken and easily chops up eg chicken necks.

The big bad boy that matches Mercer Genesis / Salter ProSharp range
Years ago I bought a set of Salter ProSharp knives that I loved but then they stopped making them and friends bought me a few other types of knife to add to my collection, including a cleaver, which was nice but I always felt a little sad they didn’t match the others. Recently, though, I discovered the Mercer Genesis range which I found was identical in styling (bar the branding) to my old Salter ProSharps when I bought an extra paring knife. So I then set about replacing my other non-Salter/Mercer knives including the cleaver. The cleaver isn’t officially part of the Genesis range and has a polypropylene handle instead of a sanoprene one so it’s solid vs soft, but the good news is that they fit perfectly together and you can’t tell the difference when they’re up on the knife rack. Like all the Salter/Mercer knives this has a totally quality feel and weight to it and whilst it scares me a little bit as it’s a massive cleaver, it does it’s job of whacking through slabs of meat like a charm - and it looks pretty badass on display in my kitchen too!

Chop Chop
Chopping up chickens, leg of lamb. Makes these tasks much quicker and easier. Good weight.

Very good
Best for the purpose of a cleaver. I did a lot of research before buying this. Needed it for meat with bones and this was just ideal. It is also very well weighted for the purpose (quite heavy actually). I would highly recommend it.

Good bit of kit
Bought this for chopping turkey necks, wings... etc for my dogs who are raw fed. Initially I found it a bit heavy but you get used to it in no time and its really good at its job. Its sharp but I keep the blade topped up with a good sharpener as makes the job easier. Comes in a nice box which I keep it in for storage. Great addition to the kitchen

Heavyweight cleaver
Unlike the classic chopping and slicing Chinese chef’s implement, this one has the extra weight to cut bone. Sharp enough to slice as well, if you have a strong wrist!

Solid meat cleaver
A really solid meat cleaver, one of the few you can actually find on Amazon. The handle is made of plastic but the entire thing still feels sturdy and well-built. Has a weighty feel to it – as it should. Highly recommended.

Ordered the Mercer Meat Cleaver (Mercer Culinary BPX) - NICE AND HEFTY Was a little worried it was going to be thinner and not as much mass to it. It is actually EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Handle also has good feeling. This completes my Mercer kitchen knife set. Awesome!

I bought a cleaver to make it easier to deal with beef and whole chicken bones. And I picked a heavy one to let the cleaver do the work. This is indeed a heavy, thick, cleaver. It's not for finesse work at all. Many reviews commented that it's not sharp out of the box. That might be true. It might also be that people aren't prepared for just how thick and heavy this cleaver is. You're not going to use this to start cutting vegetables like you might a nakiri. Also because reviews suggested it wasn't sharp, I did try to sharpen it with a whetstone. I'm not at all experienced sharpening knives and this cleaver should not be your first attempt. The share thickness of the blade made it impossible to use the 18 degree guide that came with the whetstone kit. As long as you keep these caveats in mind -- very heavy, very thick, and may not be razor sharp out of the box -- the cleaver does what it advertises.

First Impression. Awesome. I chop up chickens for a living. This knife works excellent. The weight is perfect. I hope it stays as good as this. Perfect for me but keep in mind when looking for a cleaver or a chinese block knife. This one is for cutting through bones with little effort. Not for slicing onions.

I don't know why it is so hard to find a decent cleaver, but it was, and I had to search a while to find one but lucky I found this one. So many of the other cleavers were for "light duty" wtf what is the point of having a light duty cleaver? That is like a contradictory statement right there. When I reach for a cleaver it is because I have a difficult thing that needs destroyed, and I don't want to worry about whether my knife can handle it or not. The whole point of a cleaver is to be the one knife you can depend on to get it done and be able to take the abuse. It is the HULK of kitchen knives, which is why it needs to be heavy duty and quality. This knife is VERY heavy. It is one hefty piece of steel, and the weight only makes it easier to use. Don't waste your time with a lesser quality knife. This one is the real deal.
