I've used PEX B for years and bought this to install PEX A on a high-flow lawn sprinkler line off a main well pump. PEX A fittings have a greater inside diameter. - It worked great when expanding 3/4" PEX A with A brass fittings....no leaks or issues so far. It wasn't hard to expand the pipe and end collar at room temperature. - The tool appears well made; the handles are aluminum (less weight) and the conical plunger head is discolored with what appears to be a tempering/hardening rainbow, which is good. - It comes with a small tube of grease that is applied to the heads to reduce friction. The tool and grease are made in China, so when this tube is empty I'll be using SuperLube grease because it's clean, made in USA, and NFS listed (food machinery). - If you do PEX frequently, an electric expander tool would be easier and faster. However, this tool is effective and fairly easy to use for the average DIY or Pro installer. Notes: - This doesn't have self-rotating heads like some other expanders, so you simply have to rotate the tool (or pipe) a few degrees (see photo) back and forth between expansions to overlap the tool's imprints. This will assure it’s uniform inside. Otherwise, the expansion dies will keep landing and imprinting grooves on the same spots. I’m ok with turning it slightly left and right between expansions because this there are plenty of reviews about the auto-turn feature failing on other units. - When using PEX A pipe, you must use PEX A collars over the pipe and poly or brass PEX A fittings. PEX A and B (crimp style) fittings are not interchangeable.

First time I ever used expandable PEX. I’ll never go back to the clamps! I thought this would be difficult and considered getting a powered version for several hundred dollars, but I’m glad I didn’t. This thing works great. Just make sure you rotate it inside the PEX and you’ll be fine.
