I highly recommend this card if you have an APC Smart-UPS and ...
I highly recommend this card if you have an APC Smart-UPS and run a Linux based network at your home/office. The card allowed me to do firmware updates for my UPS as well as to make sure that my computers shut down on time in the case of a power outage. For Linux I recommend trying apcupsd's pcnet driver instead of APC's own PowerChute Network Shutdown. This combination worked wonderfully when I simulated a power failure in order to test that all was OK.Do remember to flash the latest "aos" and "sumx" firmware bits to get proper TLS 1.2 encryption in case you would want to enable a port forward to the card's web server. The only negative thing I found is that I could not manage to start a serial session with the out of the box firmware. I have yet to try again with the latest firmware update that I installed via regular FTP client built in into Ubuntu's file manager.

Instructions provided are truly awful - thankfully this is almost idiot proof to set up and configure out of the box. Does the job required of it perfectly - can ask for more than that!

It is what it is
Added this to our large APC power supply to ensure we can shut down a batch of virtual servers in the event of power loss. The unit itself is easy to fit but does require a complete power down of the UPS so plan it for evening or weekend maintenance. APC software wouldn't win any design awards but it's relatively straight forward and easy to configure. Bought it from amazon because I needed it quick and I trust them to deliver.
