Will this work on a platform bed where the mattress sits inside the frame?

I do not see why it would not work.  On my bed it goes between a mattress and boxspring so on your bed it would go under the mattress and on top of the bed frame.  Hopefully you can attach the strap that goes under the mattress to somewhere on the frame on the opposite side as the rail. This has worked very well for my husband.

Will this work with a couch?

that's a difficult question.  My first thought is no.  The weight of the mattress and flat surface below the matress helps keep the bar in place.  The safety strap is the critical piece that would keep the bar from coming off if a heavy pull was made against it.  The sofas we own are all covered in fabric and have a lip of sorts that hold the seat cushions in place I think the bar would not rest flat and would tilt in at an angle and not be well secured.  If that were not a problem and are "crafty".  the strap might be secured to the sofa frame by cutting some of the bottom fabric material on the bottom of the couch and threading it through the frame to secure the grab bar to the sofa.  for all these reasons the grab bar is problably not a good fit for the sofa.

Question 3

How do I recharge?  I see a port but no plug came with it. I bough it a few months ago and this is the first yime its needed to be charged.

To recharge the light, you should be using the included USB cable and a power source. The USB port on the light is designed to connect to the USB cable, which can then be plugged into a computer or a wall adapter. However, we do not include that I the box, WE ONLY PROVIDE THE CABLE which you will find in the product box.

Please note that you can try using any standard USB wall adapter that you may have at home. These adapters are commonly used for charging smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices. Simply connect the USB cable to the light and plug the other end into the USB wall adapter. Then, plug the adapter into a power outlet.

If you still don't have access to a USB wall adapter, you can also charge the light by connecting it directly to a computer or laptop using the USB cable. When connected to a computer, make sure it is powered on to provide the necessary charging current.

Question 4

Can this be put on a bed where head and foot of bed goes up & down?

We have a twin king where both sides raise head and foot independently. The rail that my wife has is on the head-part. The light comes on when she reaches out to get up. She really likes it.
