Oxford Paperback Thesaurus

This small Thesaurus is great in providing a portable means of finding great synonyms or developing your language. I found it super useful to use because of its size.

I bought the thesaurus and matching dictionary for my 10 year old daughter to use at home for a school homework. The books are easy to read and are well laid out. Not as sturdy as the hard pack version but good enough in my view.

My second edition of the ‘Oxford Paperback Thesaurus’ from 2001 has been a faithful friend but it now has crumbling pages plus several strips of sellotape holding the book together. It was a straightforward and satisfying choice to replace with the fourth edition published in 2018, and it is pleasing to note that content is as good as ever with incorporation of many new words from updating of the latest ‘Oxford English Dictionary’. Major features remain the same for nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs etc. with synonyms, opposites, different senses, formal, archaic, humorous etc. plus indication of source. As extra to my previous edition this recent publication incorporates a ‘Wordfinder’ with numerous headings and lists to group words for such categories embracing animals, food and drink, clothing, the body, medicine and illnesses, science and technology, transport etc. The print font remains clear as before with pages in two columns, but instead of both right and left justification the layout is left justified only. For me this makes it clearer to see, and the inclusion of tabs on pages for each letter of the alphabet makes it clearer to use. I look forward to many years’ service from this user-friendly 5-star replacement.

An absolute feat of research and compilation, this is the best version of a Thesaurus yet - I imagine Roget would be proud of it !

Diese Oxford Dictionaries sind einfach großartig solch ein Wörterbuch habe ich noch nie gehabt, Man versteht die Erklärungen und die Hinweise auf die Original wörter und die andderen Hinweise, Auch der Thesarus ist von dem selben Muster man kennt sich auch findet sich zurecht und versteht es auch was ich noch nie bei einem einsprachigen Wörterbuch so gespürt und gefunden habe ich bin froh es entdeckt und gekauft zu haben es ist eine echte Bereicherung. E' un dizionario dei sinonimi che si può usare in qualsiasi momento, quando si legge un testo di inglese , anche al posto del monolingue(se si ha una conoscenza approfondita dell'idioma). Il prezzo è buono e la consegna è avvenuta in anticipo del previsto. Da tenere a portata di mano
