Pride and Prejudice (Wordsworth Classics)

This is a lovely book - I’m reading it to my two daughters (8 & 4) and it’s got some beautiful illustrations and it’s a perfect print size (not too small). It feels good quality, the cover artwork is very pretty and for something so reasonably priced, would make a great gift.

A beautiful version of this book! With black and white pictures to illustrate A good read whether one is new to Jane austin or just adding the their collection. It is also a good read of a great classic.

What a mistake to re-read one of my all time favourite novels! By the time I was 18, I had read all of Jane Austen's major works and I loved every single one of them because I was a young romantic with my whole life ahead of me. However, re-reading it as a 50 something, I am afraid it failed to work its magic on me I suppose because I have become somewhat cynical. However, from the linguistic point of view, it is fascinating to compare how language changes and progresses over time.This book certainly is a must if you have never read it before, but beware if you have as I do not recommend you re-read it as you may be disappointed.

Fantastic device and quality

Oh the joys of finding your perfect match or in most cases the hard work. Mrs Bennet is eager to get her daughters married off to a suitable gentleman as quick as possible. So she is delighted when a wealthy young man comes to stay in their neighbourhood. Mr Bingley is drawn to Jane Bennet the eldest of the daughters and things look good. However his friend Mr Darcy whom no one seems to like interferes and things take a turn. Adding to the story there are misunderstandings, unexpected unions and plenty of passive aggressive conversations. Throw into the mix meddling relatives, deceitful charmers and scandalous behaviour and you have a wonderful drama to keep you turning those pages. The author Jane Austen is of course well known for her romantic novels. I have read two now. This one and Emma shortly afterwards and loved them both. I am a bit of an old romantic at heart. It's still relatable today as dating is a very precarious activity. It's still the same palaver be it a bit less formal. I am just glad I am married now and don't have to partake in this ineffectual activity. The characters are great. Funny, quiet or proud they add to the plot well. Elizabeth Bennet is our main concern and she delights us with her spirit and also her love for her sisters. The book is very entertaining and I would highly recommend it. This was my first Jane Austen novel and I intend to read more.

Severek okuduğum ve eski dilden yeni versiyona çevrilmiş bir kitap. Filmi izledikten sonra sipariş etmiştim. Kelimesi kelimesine aynı olması şaşırttı. dil İngilizcedir.

(ENGLISH) I ordered this book quite some time ago and I have yet to continue reading it as I have been busy with exams, but I could definitely tell this is going to be a good one! I absolutely loved the film and although I understand that films and books aren't all the way the same, I trust this book would not disappoint. It also contains illustrations which I was not aware of but I certainly do not mind! Only complains about this edition, the quality of the book. The edges of the cover were slightly scraped as it is easy to scrape off some of it (but it did come in the way I just described). There are a few grammar mistakes in the book which don't bother me too much, but I assume some people might find it annoying. Another thing as well, I hadn't realised, some chapters start on the same pages as some of the previous chapters would have ended, which at first kind of bothered me, but it does not bother me too much now. Overall, I definitely recommend! (NOTE) I am not a native English speaker, so when I first started reading the book, some words had me really twisted. If you're looking for something easier I suggest buying an annotated version! They have many more pages but it might be easier to understand. (DUTCH) ik heb dit boek dus een tijdje geleden gekocht en ik moet zeker nog wel verder lezen, maar ik kan nu al vertellen dat dit wel een goeie is! Ik genoot zeker veel van de film en hoe dan ook de films en boeken natuurlijk niet al het zelfde zijn, ga ik er alsnog vanuit dat dit boek mij niet gaat teleurstellen! Er zijn ook illustraties te vinden in het boek waar ik helemaal niks van wist tot dat ik het zelf in mn handen kreeg, super leuk! Een paar nadelen aan deze editie, kwaliteit van het boek. De zijkanten van het omslag kunnen gemakkelijk eraf geschraapt worden als je er met je nagels over heen gaat. Het kwam inderdaad ook zo binnen, maar het was niet al te erg. Er zijn ook een paar spelfouten te vinden in het boek maar dat doet mij niet veel, maar sommige mensen zullen dit misschien wel een beetje irritant vinden. Verder wist ik niet dat sommige hoofdstukken precies aan het einde van het vorige hoofdstuk beginnen, dat viel eerst wel tegen maar nu kan ik er nog wel mee door. Ik raad het wel echt aan!

最初読んだときは難しさに圧倒されました。ballってdanceの意味もあるんですよ。でも読みごたえはあるしストーリーがかろうじて掴めるようになると、少し面白さがわかる気がしました。

Il mio giudizio è assolutamente di parte perché adoro Jane Austen e tutti i suoi romanzi. Ovviamente avevo già letto Orgoglio e Pregiudizio in italiano e avevo già visto le diverse trasposizioni cinematografiche e televisive in lingua originale. Volevo leggere anche il libro in inglese per carpire appieno tutte le sfumature date dal genio di Jane Austen all'opera e ai personaggi di un'epoca così lontana da noi ma per certi versi non certo peggiore. Lo consiglio a tutti quelli che hanno una buona dimestichezza con la lingua anglosassone. Da leggere e rileggere per sognare - cosa che non costa niente ed è ormai praticamente impossibile ai nostri giorni. E' ovvio che la storia e i dialoghi fanno parte, come già detto, di un'epoca ormai sorpassata, quindi non aspettatevi sesso, parolacce, violenza, o scene esplicite. Ed io aggiungo: MENO MALE! Lasciatevi trasportare in un mondo dove il rispetto verso gli altri, l'educazione ed il viver civile avevano ancora una certo peso.

I saw the movie , then wished to read the book. About the story it is as usual very nicely written and we have that feeling of living with the characters. Of course a little different from the movie😊 About the book, the good thing is that it is not heavy, the writing is a little small but for me it was ok and enjoyed reading it. More over quality and price were excellent 👌
