Great as Main Router or as a Backup
With 4G coverage becoming more and more prominent. Decided to switch our Rural BT Broadband over to a more modern alternative. Speeds before were 4Mb/s down and 0.3Mb/s which are better than some but not good enough in a remote working scenario! Tested in two locations as my internet in the City was struggling with load. Worked very well using stock antennas getting speeds of 30Mb/s down and 20Mb/s up enough for 5 people Zooming, watching videos etc.. This was quickly setup without line of sight to a tower as a temporary connection in a heavily congested area. Then fitted in Rural area using a QuMax Wireless antenna from wireless instruments to give speeds of 28.7Mb/s down and 9.7Mb/s up (sometimes reaching 20 dependent on load). Compared to the previous BT line much more reliable and speedy. However there is a slight latency increase but this is of no fault to the product. The actual unit is very well made and comes with features you would expect for the target market such as built in Passive PoE (different to the standard 803af PoE - be weary) which I used to power the router over a cable run of approx. 100m outdoors. The router is also feels solidly made with an aluminium enclosure however the SIM card did jam for me at one point meaning I had to take it apart due to it being knocked out of place by the force of lifting it up. Overall a really nice router compared to the other stuff you can get.

Bought to replace 4GEE home route but was worse
Bought this with high expectations - I have been after an affordable router that offers features not available on the 4GEE home router (e.g. L2TP) to use items that don't work with CGNAT issues with UK mobile broadband. All set up but was only able to achieve speeds of c10meg when I'm used to getting 50+meg with the old EE router. Wifi signal range is also not as good as the EE router (router has to be upstairs for max signal strength). Tried with an external aerial which also didn't work. Pros: Small, easy to set up with all the features I was after. Cons: Poor wifi coverage and not as good as the bog standard 4GEE router. I persevered trying to make this work as I really wanted it to however... no joy. The hunt continues for a suitable router so I can use my Nest and Philips Hue!

Very, Very Impressive Unit...
After lots of research hunting for a compact 4G router for use in a motorhome being setup for a long duration trip, I bought this unit and was immediately impressed with the professional-grade build quality and the truly stunning feature set. I've had experience with lots of standard domestic grade WiFi routers from the usual manufacturers and thought that the RUT240 would be just more of the same. I found the RUT240 extremely easy to configure and keep on finding features that I had only seen before in very high end network products. You really do not need to be an expert User to get this product quickly connected; the setup wizard does a great job in guiding Users through the stages and within a couple of minutes, I was connected to the EE mobile network and getting emails. Then, if you want to finely tune the configuration, there are a wide range of options that are all very accessible and backed up with great documentation in the online wiki. Changing to another mobile network operator is really easy by just swapping the SIM in the externally accessible carrier and then running part of the setup wizard. Within minutes, I was connected to the Vodafone UK network. The RUT240 event and system logging support is excellent and can be a great help in resolving connectivity and other issues. One really neat feature is the digital Input/output port that I will use to connect to vehicle alarms/sensors etc., so that I can get an email/SMS if there is an issue with the vehicle when I am away. Happily, the quality of the documentation matches the professional quality of the product. This whole experience with the RUT240 has been exceptionally good and I would have no hesitation in buying more for other 4G router. applications.

No eSIM
This is not the eSIM model, despite the description saying that it is, which is why I've removed a couple of stars. However, the functionality, GUI and setup is very impressive.

Great connectivity
Works reliably and was easy to set up. Good signal strength even in rural areas. The eSIM feature is convenient and saves time. Compact design and runs stable with no dropouts so far. Great value for remote connectivity.
