SAM Labs Science Museum Inventor Kit - Learn & Invent with this STEM Starter Kit - Build and Program inventions

I received my beautiful SAM Inventor Kit the other day. I was first attracted by the description of the partnership between SAM Labs and the Science Museum. My wife and I are huge fans of the Science Museum and go once every two months. We saw the energetic SAM team in their booth and the kids immediately wanted this for christmas, unfortunately I had already bought them gifts. Now that the novelty of their christmas gifts has worn off (I wish I had bought the SAM kit earlier), I decided to give it a try. It wasn't an obvious purchase as it was a bit on the expensive side. But I was convinced that we'd spend enough time with the kit for the investment made.First of all, receiving the kit felt like opening something from Apple. The packaging is minimalist yet very sophisticated, it slides beautifully to reveal the SAMs inside.Then the interface and exercises were a pleasure to do together. We created little morse code circuit, and the kids can now communicate without me or my wife understanding! and also a drum machine from things in the house, which was fun!The activities are really well curated and the material is helpful.Lots of fun, definitely recommend!

Kit is good however the price tag is a little steep for what is in the box. £60 would have been about right.

Great starter kit for the SAM labs stuff although I have had a bit of trouble getting the Bluetooth working. It worked fine on my MacBook but as I didn't want my son to keep using it (as I needed it for work!) I tried to reconnect the kit to the home iMac but it kept failing to see the blocks - even with the dongle. Also, on the light sensor the USB power socket detached from the PCB after only a week although I must say SAM labs immediately sent a replacement at no cost. All in all, I do like it and my son likes the App too - especially the integration with IFTTT which then allows him to have SAM labs interact with the Hue lights in our house!! Only downside is the price is quite high so it's quite an investment to build up a large set of blocks.

I came across SAM Labs while at the Science museum in December and was instantly amazed by the product. I got a cool demo from the sales person and they showed me some of the applications, but I wasn't entirely sure it would be right for me. After checking out more videos of projects and seeing what others have done, I decided to get started myself. This is a solid kit to get begin with because of the 5 project that talk you through the app, and I'm now looking at which next modules I should buy to move on to bigger projects.

Apparently Sam Labs now produced a newer kit and activities mentioned in this kit are no longer available. Had a long chat with their support line and there is nothing they can do. So get ready to search youtube to get started. No instructions included in the kit or in the app apart from simple demo on how to connect two blocks.Blocks probably are a good idea.

I got this for my younger brother and he loved it. Really fun and the activities are nicely made. Would love to have more modules in it but a great starting kit with enough to learn and build projects.

Hi this item was bought for my grandaughter for Christmas she has a lot of Sam labs modules she loves science and electronics she's only eleven so this is part of one of her projects will let you know more after Christmas best wishes Dave Rhodes.

I love the idea and I'm sure it's a great product. The criticisms I have are that the instructions on and in the box are not clear enough. I bought it as a gift for my grandson but he and his dad couldn't make head or tail of what it was. It nearly got sent back. It was only because I looked up some links and sent them to them that it is still with them.Secondly, the instructions for the projects are really basic. If it doesn't work as described, it's not obvious what to do next. This last comment is anecdotal but my grandson is very good technically so if he can't navigate the site, then the site isn't good enough.I have also just found out that the app for iPhone and iPad is a limited version compared to the one for a laptop or computer. I don't think this is acceptable.
