Is this compatible with a canon 1100d? and does it crop the image? I've heard some lenses do that with certain cameras

Yes this lens is compatible with a Canon 1100d. Because a APS-C camera (cameras which accept EF-S lenses) have a smaller sensor than full frame cameras they do appear to crop the image in a way. Basically all lenses have what is called an image circle. They project the image onto the film or sensor. A crop sensor (APS-C) will show you a smaller area of the image compared to a full frame. So whilst a 50mm lens is always a 50mm lens, you will see what appears to be a cropped part of the image compared to if it was taken on a full frame sensor. So this 50mm lens shows an area of the image circle that is the same crop as a 80mm lens on a full frame camera. This is nothing to worry about and can be very useful - for example a 70-300mm zoom is like having a 112mm to 480mm zoom when used on APS-C cameras which allows you to get closer to distant subjects. This is calculated by taking the original lens focal length and multiplying it by the crop factor - this is 1.6 for APS cameras. So 50 x 1.6 = 80. This is a great lens for people and portraits on a APS-C camera.A 50mm lens is always a 50mm lens. It's just that on a crop sensor camera you are seeing a smaller part of the image than on a full frame camera. The depth of field is the same on both cameras. So using this at f/1.8 will give you the same depth of field on both cameras if taken from the exact same position. It can be confusing and is hard to explain without diagrams. It's nothing to worry about though - this lens will produce great images on full frame and APS-C. The only limitation is your imagination.

Is this compatible for canon 70d and is it much different to the f/1.4???

Yes it is compatible with the 70d. Biggest difference between this one and the 1.4 is the difference in aperture size affecting how much light you can let in. The 1.4 is also 2.5 times more expensive than this 1.8 so it's up to you if you think more light is worth the added cost.

Does this product come with a Canon-fulfilled warranty/guarantee?

Yes. But canon are so cool NFC debt which th this product that you should have no reason to make a warranty claim. I have the following additional Canon lenses:16-35mm f/4L USM24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM70-200mm f/2.8L IS USMBelieve it or not, I use the 50mm f/1.8 STM more than I use the other L grade high quality lenses for my street photography and general walkabout shooting. For serious pro engagements I use the L series. The 50mm has never let me down. It is very good.
