Is this French maritime pinebark?

No it is not. Most French maritimbe pinebark is produced under license and called pycnogenol. I did some research and there appears to be little diference between pinus pinaster which is the extract for this supplement and the French Maritime bark. Pycnogenol is more expensive because supplement makers who want French Maritime pine bark are forced to pay a royalty for the pycnogenol which I think is patented.

Is it possible this is not Pinus Pinaster? Pinaster is typically more expensive.

I don't know about the Pinus Pinaster bit. I purchased this product, but haven't started using it yet. Need to use up the product I currently have first, which is Healthy Origins Pycnogenol. This product has been pretty effective, but it is more expensive. The labeling between the two is not exactly equivalent. The Pycnogenol says "French Maritime Pine Bark Extract 65-75% Procyanidins" (100 mg), while this product calls the active ingredient Proanthocyanidins 95% (400 mg). A quick search on procyanidins reveals that procyanidins are members of the proanthocyanidins. Unfortunately, that really isn't enough to say that the two are equivalent. How much of the 400 mg of 95% proanthocyanidins are procyanidins? That is the missing information. Still, it's significantly cheaper, which is why I bought some to give it a try.

Will this pine bark boost your energy?

In my experience, this pine bark will improve circulation when used over a period of time. Results are subtle but measurable. It is not a stimulant. Hope that answers your question.
