I bought this for knowing how to use my knuckle dusters. Easy read. I think I read through it in one day. Good information. I just hope I never have to use this knowledge on anyone.

This book is more productive as paper to start your campfire than actual knowledge. It’s all common sense and mostly history and left me extremely disappointed that I dropped the cash. I’d be dissatisfied even if I had gotten from 1/2 price books.

Duster is one of those "tools" that re so easy to take for granted. So much so that another reviewer felt disappointed that the technical content of the book is all "common sense" and no different from unarmed martial arts. Well, I always think that a common sense approach to any practical self-defense book is a plus, especially since common sense is not so common these days. The first thing I liked about this tome is its historical overview - who would have thought there is so much history behind a common street weapon of this sort? Second, the chapter on the reasons to acquire one as your tool of choice is very well done. Third, as in his other books, the author does a good job of providing basic legal frame for the reader/practitioner to have in mind when making his or her decision to carry a duster for the combative purpose. Finally, the techniques themselves...some will look very basic and direct transfer from unarmed fighting methods. Well, that too is a good thing - you should feel unencumbered with ethnic, geographic and other traditions if you seek to get some practical skills. Also, we should keep in mind that not every personal potentially buying this book will have some martial art background. Especially with these techniques and methods being selected and accumulated from different sources. On top of that, there are some actual technical details and variations specific to the use of knuckle duster, which nicely expand the scope of possible uses, particularly in view of the continuum of force, i.e. legal implications mentioned earlier in the book. Without this information it would take a lot of training and experimentation to come up with these solutions on your own, or a hefty amount of time and effort to find them all in other places. If you are really looking for a hands-on guide to utilization of "instant iron fist", you won't find a better one than this!
