Why did you pick this product vs others?: Not much to say. Everyone knows ugly stiks are the best. Rod is really clean and aesthetically pleasing, Easy to transport, and built to withstand massive fish. Extremely good rod for the price point.

This is a case of the reel coming before the rod. Recently I ran into a couple new Okuma Trio 55 spinning reels, a series I've always liked but was discontinued years ago, and my 30 series have limitations. Not being able to pass them up, and much to my wife's chagrin, the search began for a matching medium/heavy spinning rod for King salmon. Enter these "catfish" rods. LOL I haven't used yet due to purchasing during the winter, but I have plenty of experience with various Ugly Stik rods on large fish. I have no doubt this version will uphold the standard. These are fairly priced, attractive, light enough, possess plenty of backbone for heavy, powerful fish, are equipped with the one-piece stainless steel guides (no inserts!), and have grippy rubberized shrink wrap handles. And the 8' 2-piece rods makes for easy transport. I could have done far worse! These Ugly Stik rods are the real deal for big fish.

i've got two of these they're light and easy to handle very sensitive rod I think they're unbreakable my rods have to be tough fishing For Catfish on bottom your always getting hung up. I've been using the ugly stick for years. I have never had to return one ugly stick catfish special is the way to go. God bless catch your big one.

Have not used it yet but loving the look and feel

It's only because I got a casting version instead of the spinning one I need. However I will say after I got my Spinning one from another place it did not look as nice as the casting one which sort of disappointed me. The casting one had darker orange finish and less factory defects. As the spinning one had a bunch of nicks and a lighter orange finish but of course no crying anymore. It's not like any local fishing store near me has this rod on display and ready to go I went to multiple places and they all said " We Can Order the Rod for You" and it cost like 40 bucks more JUST because of shipping... smh. I still give it five stars bc obviously UGLY STIK.

I bought a used/ return/ scratch and dent Catfish Special Uglystik. It has some paint chipped off in one spot and I'm super happy with the discount I got. Wish I got this deal on all my fishing rods.

Paid 70 bucks for a damaged rod very disappointing my second rod came broke

I paired it with penn pursuit iv 6000 and i couldn’t tell how happy i am. It has changed my fishing experience. This rod takes those bad boys like a charm.

Ha. Nice rod. 9ft decent for tossing a good distance. Caught a bunch of diff size cats even the tiny ones were fun still. Classic ugly stick feel to it. Happy with purchase. Can find it cheaper at tackle shop IF you can find it.

Paint is peeling off faster then sunburn skin on a ginger

A little stiff for my bank rod needs, decent construction. I did land a nice sturgeon with one. I would buy the standard catfish model next time.
