A truly wonderful soap!
I love this pine tar soap! In case you're wondering, yes, this is the real deal. You can tell immediately upon opening the package that this soap has natural ingredients and no fake, overproduced smells. I happen to be very sensitive to overly perfumed soaps, even if the ingredients are natural. This Oliver Rocket soap has no strong or cloying smell, just the beautiful, soft, woodsy scent of pine and olive oil. I've always been partial to olive oil soaps, but it can be hard to find truly good, effective ones with natural ingredients. I had frankly given up on finding an "ideal" soap. My face has always been quite oily, and I've always had to soap up, rinse, and repeat -- one lathering, scrubbing, and rinsing wouldn't cut it. With this Oliver Rocket soap, I was truly shocked to find that after a single soaping up and rinsing, my face felt perfectly clean! Just to see if doing so would dry out my skin, I then soaped up and rinsed a second time. My face still felt clean, of course, but there was no sense of my skin becoming dry because of it. And interestingly, before washing the next morning, my skin felt far less greasy than usual. For me, it doesn't get better than that! But wait -- that's not all! One added fringe benefit I wasn't expecting is that the soap has imparted a quite subtle but beautiful scent that now permeates my bathroom. I happen to love it! All that said, here's one caveat: As the manufacturer clearly states, the soap goes into solution (and lathers up beautifully) upon contact with water. That means it's important not to place the soap anywhere where water will run or splash over it a lot when you're not using it; otherwise, it will dissolve fairly quickly. I have yet to see how long one bar will last if I follow this precaution, but I'm hopeful, though this soap is definitely not inexpensive. The pine tar soap works so well that I would hate to have to give it up because of cost. Anyway, if you like the scent of pine and prefer natural ingredients, by all means buy this soap! :-)

Excellent in every way; smells amazing, has a great lather, cleans well, rinses off well.
I knew that pine tar is great for starting a fire, treating a wound, killing germs and put into ointments, so I thought I would try it in a soap. Knowing how sticky pine tar is I was not sure what to expect in a soap. After all, I usually use soap to remove pine tar. What a surprise, this soap is awesome. Showering with it makes your bathroom smell like a warm pine forest in the rain. Close your eyes and imagine you are skipping naked in the rain in the north woods.... Okay maybe not, but it smells amazing and manly. The soap bars a huge, twice the size of a standard bar. The soap is really sudsy. It also rinses off great and leaves you soft and clean without feeling like your were using lotion ( I hate lotions). Amazingly it also easily removes my antiperspirant, on the first wash! Even the harsh commercial soaps take multiple passes to do this. I have only one wish, the smell of pine does not linger on your skin, for some tis may be a good thing, I wish it stayed on me a bit linger. Non the less, this soap is awesome and a great price! I have used many different brands of "natural" soaps, this soap has them all beat hand down. To sum up: smells great, has a great lather, cleans well, rinses off great.

Great stuff, but changed recently
I’ve purchased this product 11 times - so now been through 33 total bars. I will continue to purchase as I do really enjoy the soap and the price point, but there are noticeable changes in the last two batches i’ve received. First, the packaging and shape has changed. I actually prefer the new brick shape to the old square shape. Easier to hold and a more familiar feel which I really like. The packaging used to be very nice, a double paper wrap with the logo on each bar. Now its just kind of shrink wrapped. I don’t care at all for my own use, in fact the plastic probably keeps it fresher. However, I’ve given as a gift in the past and felt good about it. Probably wouldn’t gift it anymore just due to poor presentation. Second, and more importantly, the scent in early batches was awesome - strong pine tar scent that smelled great in shower but didn’t linger afterwards. My last two orders have basically been scent free. I’ll give it a few more tries as potentially i’m just getting poor batches, but if it continues, will look to try another brand as the scent is what has kept me coming back some many times.

Great Pine Tar soap...if on the fence...give it a shot
So I have tried a few different men's bar soaps. There are things I have liked and disliked about each one. Why did I try this? I honestly liked the Squatch pine tar so I figured I would try this one due to the reviews saying it was comparable and the better price point. I just got it today so there are some things I can't really speak to yet (how long it lasts, if the grit is still there through the whole bar, etc) but others I can. Not really sure if I feel "moisturized" or "exfoliated" but I feel good and clean and my skin feels scrubbed a soft. My fiance also likes the smell. One thing I enjoyed most about the other pine tar soap was the grit. I like feeling like I scrubbed something when I get out of the shower ya know? The grit is a large part of what I was looking for and this product delivered. It is also a good size and seems like it would last long. I have used the Duke Cannon "big ass brick" which I enjoyed because of the size and longevity. This feels like a good combination of the two. I like the pine tar scent, the grit, and it is large enough to feel like it will last and like I am holding a full bar of soap when I pick it up. If you like the Squatch, I highly recommend trying this soap as well. In the fancy soap market, at 3 for 15 bucks, you can't go wrong with giving it a go. Just an fyi, it doesn't come individually packaged. Not an issue for me, and that kind of stuff is part of where the lower price point comes from. I just wanted to let you know in case it matters to you. So....if you like other pine tar soaps...give it a shot....if you like a gritty scrub....give it a shot....if you like a decent size bar of soap...give it a shot. Not sure about sensitive skin...I know it has the oils in it, but I would imagine the grit may be irritating?!? Don't really know.

Great product. Great price.
This is great artisan soap at a great price. You will love the scent and the clean feeling you get from this soap. Buy now, with confidence, and spare yourself further reading. :) I tried the "yeti" guys and liked their soaps, too, but here is why I tried Oliver Rocket and why I am now a repeat buyer. Simply put, Oliver Rocket is every bit as refreshing and clean-feeling. The difference, to me, is the shape of the soap cake. The other guys package their soap in a cake that is approximately 4" x 4" x 5/8". By the time you are halfway through their bar, it is cracking into pieces. Of course, you can manage those pieces to avoid waste, but rubbing a handful of soap chunks on my body isn't nearly as functional (nor luxurious) as an intact bar. Same with soaping up a washcloth or scrub brush. And let's face it... you're not going to bother picking up the smaller of those pieces. Down the drain. Take a look at the pic of the Oliver Rocket bars above. Hefty. Same old boring? Maybe, but they maintain their shape right down to the sliver that you STILL don't want to discard and that's "bang for the buck". Am I cheap? Maybe, but we're talking artisan soap here, not a case of Irish Spring, else why bother with a review? Give Oliver Rocket a try. Top quality stuff. These guys deserve a look. Like me, you'll be back. Enjoy.

Best soap I've ever used!
Ok, so here's the thing. I got tired of using body wash cause of the scents and the way it dried my skin out. So I went down the soap rabbit hole. So fast forward a bit. I of course tried the Doctor Squatch soap. It was good. In fact it was really good. But that price, the fact that they are only 5oz bars, and the shape of it. Those were the downsides but I must say that the price was the main turnoff for me. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this soap tho because I must say that the Doctor Squatch pine tar soap was by far my favorite soap that I'd ever used. Well this stuff smells just as great if not a bit better. Seems to me that it sticks to your body longer once out of the shower. It also lathers better. this stuff lathers like body wash, no joke. The shape of it is closer to what I'm used to (which is important. The flat square bars of the squatch soap broke easier after I used it. In turn causing me to use it up faster). It seems like it's gonna last much longer. The bar is bigger which I like because I have huge hands. but most importantly? The price. This is very nicely priced for such a good bar of soap. I can get 6 bars for less than what I pay for 3 bars of Doctor Squatch. All that being said, anyone who loves Doctor Squatch but can't get past the nearly 10$ per bar price and is considering trying this soap? Well you have your answer. This is gonna be my life time soap now. Great work guys. This is an amazing bar of soap at a good price. Ty for making it.

Smell like a forest, Clean up like a Man
OVERALL: I have been using this soap for the past month or so mostly for showers. I have found each bar lasts between 1 week and 11 days, depending on how much you lather the soap. With heavy lathers where your entire body is just covered in soap suds, each bar lasts about a week. In the case of spot washing, especially if you shower multiple times a day your bar will last longer then a week. SCENT: The scent is defiantly authentic pine, I used to live in a pine forest (Flagstaff, AZ) and this actually reminds me a lot of that. What I like most is the scent is not overpowering and won't bleed into your clothes, at least not enough for you to recognize. Plus as a guy I get a lot of compliments from women, who tell me it smells natural and "homey" as a date once told me. LAST REMARKS: Something I would suggest to purchase along with this is a soap bar tray. The only downside I see is this soap after the first few showers will start to bleed out and leave residue on whatever you place it on. So if you leave this in the shower or on the bathroom sink, get a soap tray to put this on and it will make clean up easier. *Update after several months* The last few purchases I've made, the scent seems to be lacking compared to past batches. Maybe it's just that I have gotten used to it now, but my girlfriend has told me several times that she doesn't really smell the soap anymore after I shower. I'll still get this soap because I like how it makes me feel clean and for the price point compared to other pine tar soaps. But I'll also need to invest in some strong deodorant and/or cologne as this just inst strong enough anymore.

An alternative to Dr. Squatch?
If the title grabbed your attention, then this review is for you. This is an objective review about my expectations from this soap vs my results with it. Like many others, I purchased this Oliver Rocket Soap because I fell in love with Dr. Squatch's Pine Tar soap... but $10 per bar is pretty unjustifiable, no matter how well the soap works. I had to see if this soap could be an effective alternative, because the price point is quite fair. This soap smells good. I did a side by side sniff comparison between Oliver Rocket and Dr. Squatch, and the Oliver Rocket soap is very similarly scented, but a little stronger. Both of them leave the shower smelling great. Both of these soaps lathered very well also.. Just a semi-circle or two on the 'ol chest hair, and it just fired right up. It was beautiful. The biggest difference between the two and arguably my biggest complaint (only complaint) about the Oliver Rocket soap is the exfoliation properties. It doesn't really have any. I mean there's a super fine grit to it, but it's almost un-noticeable. The Dr. Squatch soap has large granules and pieces in it that really went to town on me, and left me with a wonderful, tingling sensation after the shower. Oliver Rocket did not leave me with the same feeling. It still left me feeling clean, don't get me wrong, but there wasn't any of that "tingle" that I love. From what I've gathered reading through all of the reviews, there has been some kind of formula change. It sounds like the "Old Formula" that everyone's mentioning seems like what I was after. This would really hit the mark if they could make it a lot more abrasive. This was the first soap brand that I've tried as an alternative. I will happily finish all three of the bars, but when they're gone I think I will continue looking for a more accurate Dr. Squatch replacement.
