Dobro Primer Book For Beginners Deluxe Edition with DVD & CD Review: Excellent - Not just for beginners - He really covered all the bases. In the book the tablature and music notations are nice and big and DARK, easy to see with the book sitting on a stand. There are notations for which finger to use (TMI) and what chords to play. He takes each section of a song and has you practice them separately, one at a time, then puts them together. The video follows the book exactly. There isn't any chatter or explanation in between. That way when you play the video over and over you don't have to listen to irrelevant stuff again and again. (But there are explanations and suggestions in the book.) It moves right along and is very methodical, and it's the same procedure for each section: He has you play along with him, twice slowly, and then twice faster, but not too fast. As a bonus, the tabs are at the top of the screen, and each note is highlighted as it is played. That way you don't have to refer to the book. In the book, next to every single exercise and song is the track number on the CD. First he has you play simple songs, but then moves into more advanced techniques like rolls, slides, pull-offs, and hammer-ons and incorporates them into other songs. In my opinion this is not just for beginners. When you take these songs up to speed, you sound like a pro, but it takes a lot of work. Review: Good Starter Book - this is a good starter book. I wish there was more music in it. The DVD would benefit by a little more explanation on some of the basics. One of the things I am dealing with is how to kill the sounds of the strings that are not supposed to be played. There is nothing really discussed on that question. So it is all trail and error (lots more errors than I would like) However, it is a good method and I am starting to be able to identify some of the patterns taught in the book in other music that I listen to.

Easy way to learn!
The book is an easy to follow primer for beginners. Learn the basics and then play along with songs to help you learn those techniques. Each song is broken down part by part and then put together at slow and fast tempo. As a musician, this was a great way to learn a new instrument and tablature. Would recommend for anyone wanting to learn to play dobro!

EXCELLENT
Due to a table saw accident, my husband is no longer able to finger chords on his guitar. A square neck resonator guitar and this book have helped him regain entry into his world of being a performing musician. First, this is the older version of this book. This book comes with 1 dvd and 1 cd. The newer versions of this book only comes with DOWNLOADS for these two valuable assets. My husband prefers having the physical dvd and cd. This book was the ONLY book recommended by the music store where he purchased his new square neck resonator guitar. My husband has found this book to be very helpful. The format of the book follows the dvd perfectly. This set is well organized and an asset for a beginner learning a new instrument. In addition to this book, my husband has found many helpful you tube videos. My husband is a musician with many decades of experience in playing a guitar. While he had never played a square neck resonator before, he wasn't a complete novice with musical instruments. He found this book and included dvd and cd easy to follow. I am unable to comment on how someone with zero musical background would do with this book.

Dobro lessons are great good effort
Interesting well formatted book for beginning students of the instrument. I am a long playing musician of the standard fretted guitar, forget any thing U remember about guitar playing . Every thing is different from how the instrument is held ,hand & finger positions, etc. I am having a blast learning to play this instrument.
